Crawfish Pots
Some what does everyone use? Stainless? Aluminum? Where can I find a good pot & basket for cooking some crawfish this upcoming year. I have a jet burner and just tired of this cheap /small Academy thing.

Re: Crawfish Pots
Aluminum no doubt. I have a guy here in winnie that builds mine for 1800. Itll cook 100 lbs at a time. Pot is aluminum and stand is stainless.

Re: Crawfish Pots
I think i may have an extra one that i could sell you a lil cheaper. I still have the first one that he built for us and that was about 5 years ago. Still cooks them bugs just right. And thats cooking about 30-40,000 lbs a season.

Re: Crawfish Pots
Thanks guys I just saw there were two options.... Stainless Steel vs. Aluminum. It seems like most people are going with Aluminum any particular reason? Price? Ability to retain heat longer or disperse it faster?

Re: Crawfish Pots
Got a homemade stainless about 30-40 years old. It's great for multiple boils cause it keeps the heat. But Id go with aluminum

The best pot is the old galvanized steel pot but they don't make them anymore!

Re: Crawfish Pots
Coe, If you cook big I'd get the 100qt aluminum. If you are only gonna cook one sack at a time I'd get the 80qt aluminum. It heats up a lot faster than the 100 and you'll burn less gas, water, season, etc etc. Just something to think about.

Re: Crawfish Pots
make a burner with one jet
3/8s stainless pipe cap and drill it to the correct diamter
mine is like that, sounds like a rocket, will boil 2 sacks in the time a store bought burner boils one

Re: Crawfish Pots
I have a pretty old 80 quart that is absolutely perfect for a sack. It's a little taller than the new ones and narrower. My bud had an 80 quart and it sucks. It's shorter and wider the basket has a gap around the sides where the crawfish get stuck. Stay away from the short one.

Re: Crawfish Pots
I forgot my parents have 2 pots they never use. I claimed them this past weekend. I believe they are both around 100Q.

Re: Crawfish Pots
Aluminum all the way. Yes stainless retains heat better but when I turn the burner off I apart water on the pot to cool them. I find you don't over cook them and the soak up more flavor. If you want the exact size for a single jet I can find out for you.
