i would check ebay for older cast iron griswold the inside will be slick as glass wagner also very good or the older lodge also very good the new lodge is called lodge logic the inside is coarse i would stay away from the new lodge and all of these brands were made in the usa lodge logic still is |

Lodge! Made in the USA for over 100 years. I have two 12" skillets, one 10" one 8" (that some one was throwing out), dutch oven (with fry basket), square griddle, two burner griddle and muffin pan. All pre-seasoned Lodge. Just make sure never use soap on them--just hot water, dry them, heat them up and wipe with oil while still warm. Screw the flea market. I can get brand new 12" skillets for $24. You'll spend more than that in gas driving to garage sales looking for what you want. They did tests on cookware and the crap made in China had lead in it! |

The smoother the pans the less they stick. Don't buy the cheapest, by the smoothest. One fella mentioned about going to the flea market is a great idea. Just make sure your buying something older not the new stuff. If your gonna buy new Lodge is better than most. Anything you buy will last you a lifetime. The better finish it has the more you will like it! |

To tell you the truth, you only have one choice. lodge, at least American made. There's only one cast iron pot foundry left in the US. Yeah, you can buy an Emiril pot, but he got it from Lodge and simply put his name on it. Every Lodge I have ever owned ended up in the scrap pile out back. I own all Grizwold and Wagner stuff from the 30's and 40's. May be a little more money but 100X better castings and quality. |

bodum makes a really heavy cast iron wok. It's about 20 lbs that works great. I've got about 10 pieces of cast iron. Seasoning them and keeping the carbonization on them is the key. |

Once you break down and buy a Griswold or Wagner you will throw that new Lodge junk away. You cant season a poor quality cast enough to perform on par with a poor season on a good cast. |
