I broke the BGE in this weekend. Started off smoking 3 butts for the night of the opener. Learned a lesson.....if you get up to check your smoke, make sure you open the lid very carefully or, at least check the dsaisy wheel to make sure it didn't move....mine did. I checked it at hour 9 of the smoke and the temp didn't budge from 205. I got back a few hours later from the hunt and the temp alarm was going off and the egg was at 275. It could have been worse I guess. The internal at that time was 208. I freaked a little and tried to call Jon and Russ to ask for help. I shut it down, pulled the butts, wrapped them in celophane and put them in a cooler. It worked like a charm. they were great!! Also took my shot at gratons this weekend. They were a big hit and didn't last very long. I should have cooked more than 5 pounds Also blew through this pyramid ![]() Fired it up again this evening (same charcoal) and cooked a couple of pizzas |

a couple of more cooks and you won't have to worry about the daisy wheel moving during your cook. If yours is anything like mine, it will clot up with grease/smoke and get to where it is difficult to move. Occasionally, I will put the whole daisy wheel down into the fire to cook everything off after a cook, but I hate doing this because it does make everything so loose. Slinger - don't get frustrated. Post up the troubles that you are having and we will try to fix them. You just need to get some cook time under your belt. |

I'm eating some pulled pork right now as I type. I tried the Capts salt and cayenne coating and have to say that I really like it. The best thing is that my wife commented that whatever coating I have on the pork was really good. I did a 24hr cook on my butt and I'm really pleased with the results. I would feed it to anyone. Capt your right about the daisy wheel. Mine is so greased up that it would take a cutting torch to open the wheel. Hizz I don't like the idea you don't have me on the BGE speed dial. Randy |

it doesn't take long to get them stuck, the Daisey Wheel that is. I actually baked some biscuits on mine the other day. Got up early and the wife and kid were asleep so I made some homemade biscuits and though, hmmmmmmmmmm let's try the BGE, turned out great. |
