just got off the ATV sprayin my place with 2, 4-D.

The vine is growing on a chain link fence and it is way too close to the house to try burning it. I've cut it, poisoned it, cut it and poisoned it. It won't die. It just sprouts up a few feet down the fence.

And the damned thing will grow over a foot a day during the summer. I can't keep up with it...

It's about to come to the point of REMAX !!!

That damned vine is my white whale.

I pulled some Crepe Myrtles up out of the ground and they came back 100 fold -- I pulled all them up -- came back again and was taking ovr everything -- I sprayed em with this -- BAM dead

Can't dig up all the roots - they run under the driveway (concrete).

So I went by the feed store at lunch. They had the Crossbow in 1 gal. containers for $75. They guy sold me another brand in a smaller container & said that it was the same stuff. We'll see.

But, on another note, while there, I noticed that they sell chickens. Got me to wanting to get a few chickens for the back yard.

Anyone have any experience with with raising a few chickens?

Mines partner that sells ag chemicals says you need "Remedy" fo yore remedy !!! Don't know the retail cost .... but all that stuff is High !!!

As fo chickens ..... do you want layer, fryers, ornamental, or fighters ??

Maybe some that lay brown eggs, you know, for the cool factor.

I guess all I really need to do is get off my ass and get to it...but that could be said for a lot of things.

Production Reds is yore friend !!! RoadIsland Red is also a good choice. You ain't gonna need a Rooster unless you just like to here them hollar ... but thays bad 'bout lettin' the coyotes and owls know whats goin' on. You should git 'bout 8 young hens (Production Type) and coop 'em up and pin 'em up and love 'em. Feed them layin' pellets, scratch, and crushed oyster shell. You will git 'bout 2 and half dozen eaigs a week sometimes mo .... of them purdy brown eaigs that you be cravin'.

I likes "Run-Free" yard byrds of the Hatch Game and/or Greys mineself with an assoicated Rooster. Thay learn to git all up in the trees aways from preditors .... but preditors do eventually figure them out ifin' you don't git rid of them first. Yard byrds runnin' with Rooster have them strong eaigs thay the yeller will stain yore plate ifin' you cooks them sunnyside up or over easy. Thay also assist in ant removal, tick, and other small bothersome insects that accompany all rual yards.

I honestly believe that it is almost un-American not to have a few layers in a pin with coupe and or a nice group of YardByrds ..... JMsO !!!!

I ain't gots none rite now ..... ..... Mines sister-in-laws dawg figured mines out and rid me of mines byrds ...... Her dawgs life is on a short schdule at present .... and I shall return to mines own yard stock again ......

buddy and i used to have a dozen dominiggers. All but a couple got ate up. the last few got smart and started hangin out in the trees. I like havin yard birds around for bugs and stuff. Hell, even when i lived in my first apartment me and my ol lady bought a couple ducks for the porch didnt take long for the complex management to figure us out

Brooks - you gotta realize that I live right smack-dab in the middle of town. I'm in a neighborhood that is mostly college rental homes. The neighborhood was built in the 50's and has small lots.

My back yard is fenced in by chain link fence. No worries with coyotes, or even owls, for that matter. We have an occasional hawk drift through, but not enough to worry with.


And Brad - I sprayed the vines this evening. They aren't dead yet...

How close are they?

very close -- the wisteria is climbing the fence and bridging over to the dogwood. Sure, it looks good with the purple wisteria flowers mingled in with the white dogwood flowers, but that vile weed has GOT TO GO!!!

yea, but way louder than chickens! but funny as chit to watch run around. i started with 19 but now im down to 8. done shot a fox and a coon and damn near pulled the trigger on mines neighbors dogs. bitches. once the critters figure out where the fowl hang out its hard to keep em from gettin eaten.
i figure the guinnies would be too loud for town, i bet the neighbors would complain.

screw my neighbors! It's not that I'm the azzhole old crumudgeon neighbor, but they damn sure don't give consideration during their all night partys & leaving empty beer cans all over the street. It's just something that comes along with the neighborhood I live in...

I still ain't gettin' no guinneas. Do they even lay eggs suitable for human consumption?

takes twice as many to eat breakfast, their eggs are smaller and have a shell thats alot harder. its a job to get the egg out and not have shell pieces in the pan. they taste like regular chicken eggs.

So is it dying? If not I got one more thing to try but you cant let it fly around cause it will kill EVERYTHING in sight -- LOL

It started to wilt a little bit, but I need to re-spray it again (and again).

Just throwing this out there....if you need to kill a tree like say...on your neighbors property. Drive a bunch of copper nails in the main roots and snip the heads off with cutters. It will do the trick slow enough that nobody will suspect you hopped the privacy fence at night and drove nails with a rubber mallet to keep it quiet and then slipped off in the dark.
