I'd just like to pay a little tribute to my Uncle Ray who just died: http://www.obitsforlife.com/obituary/86 ... aymond.php He and his brothers, including my dad, grew up in South Philly in the Great Depression. They ate mustard sandwiches and the three brothers slept in a single bed. They all volunteered for World War II--my two uncles fought in Europe and my dad in the Pacific. Uncle Ray was in the Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He never talked about it much. None of them did. Only a story here and there that I remember. Like the time Germans were talking to him on the radio trying to pretend to be Americans and get their position (all with thick German accents)--Uncle Ray was a really funny guy and he used to just screw with them. Or the time he talked about walking through the rubble of French villages with his 1911 out, safety off. Goodbye, Uncle Ray. |

A toast to your Uncle Ray. And one to all that generation. Never will we have a generation of people like them. |

Irish, Maginnis is the name. Said he had to fight almost every day. Probably still give a guy a go at 85. They all put that behind them when they faced the enemy. |
