I do not agree with anyone's premise here that aid for poor people and the disabled is broken at all and should be scraped in total. Is there fraud? Yes, but there is fraud in the corporate world, on Wall Street, everywhere. Poor people are not more predisposed to it than anyone else. More than half the people who benefit from the assistance are children who are completely innocent. The law also limits lifetime welfare assistance to five years, requires most able-bodied adults to work after two years on welfare, eliminates welfare benefits for legal immigrants who have not become U.S. citizens, and limits food stamps to a period of three months unless the recipients are working.

As far as answering the question about what my wife believes, I can say she is a very compassionate and giving person. I would characterize her politics as liberal Republican. If more were like her the Republican party might stand a chance of surviving.

D I think everyone here is for giving to tbose in need. They just need to reform it. There is more people taking advantage of it than u think. Its a vicious cycle that is getting worse as time goes on. All those bad eggs are hatching new eggs and teaching them all bad and no good.

I think fraud is on a downward trend. Electronic cards are definitely a step in the right direction. I don't know why the system won't reject payment for prohibited items. Anybody know? Is implementation of the software not ready yet? Maybe it does, I don't know.There should not be an option to withdraw cash. If we can get to that level of control, the only thing left will be to eliminate card fraud and theft but then credit card companies have not been unable to do that either.

I think the major objection people have with the system is the principal of welfare itself. There seem to be three factions: people who believe welfare is 1) a good policy the implementation of which is efficient, 2) a bad policy and should be eliminated completely, and 3) a good policy with flawed implementation that can be improved. Where do you fall? I'm between 1 and 3 and I don't mean 2.

DG were you always liberal or did you become that way as an adult? Were your parents liberal?

There is a lot of fraud, and it is our tax dollars that are what is the problem. If it happens in the private sector, I do not care. I do not think we need to drug test. I do not think we need special aisles in stores.

What we need is to stop. Stop all of it. Let the churches feed the people in a "soup kitchen" sort of way. Let the family feed their cousins and nephews and all that. What we will find is a lot of people getting motivated because going to the soup kitchen will not be cool. And people are only going to help family that are truly in need. They will find food on their own. And if they don't, well that is their own fault. But we are the only society where our supposed extreme poor are obese.

What chaps my azz, is that the local schools encourage people to get on free lunch. Because the Feds will pay more to the lunch rooms per meal, than the school requires for the students to pay. I hear about $2 per meal difference. So if a child gets free lunch for 180 days a year that is $360 per year, you get 200 kids per year per school on it, that is an extra $72,000 per year for the school.

I'm at 3. But if Obama can get elected president then what is a better example illustrating that you can be whatever you wanna be. All you have to do is try and when you fail try again. You think Obama probably wasn't called a ****** at some point in his life? What did he do? He put it past him and became a president of the greatest country in the world. He didn't say the white man is keeping me down. or the rich wont let me be a part of their society.

You know, their are people all over this world knocking on America's door to get in. All they want is to work and provide for their family's. I welcome these people with open arms( as long as its done legally). To them we are living in the promise land and they just want to be part of it. But what gets me is the people that can work wont work. These people are risking life and limb trying to cross the border to come work a job that some wont walk half a block to work. My program if ever elected would be to export 1 non-working yet capable person for 1 person willing to work. No race prejudice here I only see the heart and drive of a person.

I don't mind helping the ones who can't help themselves but all others should take it upon themselves to be self sufficient.
