A 20-year-old black man in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary in the “senseless killing” of a 99-year-old white woman.

Javon Tyrek Rogers was arrested on Friday at 11 p.m., two days after Police found Fannie Gumbinger, 99, dead in her home on Wednesday morning, according to Detective Lt. Edward Freer of the Poughkeepsie Police Department. Rogers is being held in Dutchess County Jail without bail or bond.

So because black men commit disporportionately more crimes against whites, we should treat all black men as criminals? Is that the point you are trying to make here. I agree with you statistics, but disagree that it has much to do with government assistance programs. It is more a reflection of poverty heaped upon them by generations of racial prejudice. That's were the argument is isn't it? Poverty begets poverty begets crime. We have to focus on educating our young black children. We are getting there and statistics show a trend toward much improved educational results and job prospects. Though still dismal by comparison to whites, they are getting better. It may take 50 years to see the real fruits of our labor in this regard, but maybe longer if deep seeded racism hunkers down.

It has to get started at home. The teachers can't do everything. My sister is a kindergarten teacher. Some of her kids can't even count their firngers. This slows down the learning of the kids that have parents who actuality care. She says it's tuff. Do u slow down to teach the underprivileged kids with terrible parents and neglect the kids that want to learn. Or do you teach the smarter kids and just hope they catch on.

Around here they get bussed in to the suburban white schools to the point It's almost 50/50 mix. The neighborhood is close to 90/10 black. The district slowly bused more in from the inner city because they would recieve more gov funding. Since this they have hired a security guard and installed metal detectors fights and thefts went up and the average grades went down. Did it help some under privelaged youth....most likely yes are there a lot of these student that wouldnt graduate no matter where they went to school. Definetly. Does allowing more of these inner city kids into the suburban schools affect the quality of learning for the students whose parents live and pay taxes in that community. Of course it does. But its not fair when productive members of society try to better their family by moving to a better community with better school. Now they get hosed when the riff raff get bussed in and they have to put up with the crap they tried to get away from. You can bet your ass if I ever have kids I will be moving to a better school district before they start kindergarten

The money for education thing is a hoax. We pump more money into the predominately black schools than the other schools, and it fails. What Dean and crowd really want, is the continued indoctrination that is going on in these schools, where they teach the multicultural curriculum and do the liberal indoctrination. They want mindless little tools of the state that literally sing the praises of Obama.

My daughters attend a small private school run by our church. The teachers do not even get paid, they work for free. There is not a computer in every class room, and the school runs on a very small budget. This school just so happens has the highest ACT average in our state, and every kid (not just the college bound) take the ACT. Little thug gangsters do not roam the halls and run the school, like the heathen do in the big inner city public schools. Discipline is paramount, and respect is demanded in small private schools. We took the discipline out of public education, and the animals run the zoo.

Notice that Dean does not mention a peep about the gangster rap, drugs, and the destructive sub culture that has all but destroyed blacks in America.

If black men in America cared as much about their own children as they do about Trayvon, imagine the difference it would make.

Basically, Obama and crowd are telling us that when the thug hood rat with his gang tattoos and gangster rap mentality comes up into your neighborhood, wants to steal, rape, and kill, then do not even look his way, because he has a right to physically attack you because you are white, and because of past racisms, the lil Trayvons can do as they please, and we will not hold their families accountable for their actions.

Those making all the rules and regs in DC that are being pushed down, don't have a clue what's working and what is hurting, not only the blacks, but all kids. What they are learning now in 5-6th grade, I learned in 1-2 grade. It's time to abandon standardized testing and get back to teaching root. Reading, writing, math, spelling, history. You can add in tech classes too. I can tell you that kids that graduate cannot write correctly. They cannot read correctly. And the cannot do basic math.

There is an old saying that goes "you can bring a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." All kids have the same oppertunity to excel in shool. Some choose not to. You cannot blame that on the education system. Blame belongs on parents that do not take the time to make their kids better than themselves.

I am an old man on this forum, 50. I bet I am at least 15 years older than you. I have said for at least around 25 years, when I got interested in politics more which was in the late 80's, that those tools they used back when I was a kid and before then were good, simple and cheap teaching tools. Math helpers with the movable beads on a wire counters and the flash cards for math, spelling, and other things, are so good and cheap to teach kids. Repetition gets kids to learning. Teachers would make flashcards a game with us in groups. They used the bead thing, as a game most times too.

They need to learn how to type for using the computer but I still do not think that a computer has to be in a class room to teach kids what they really need to know. Most are on the computers too much now and learn at home. And they learn easily for some reason.

But most kids that are in high school today, smart kids, cannot even tell me what 10% of any amount of money in the hundreds range will be. For instance, when a kid wants to work for me, I ask them what 10% of a number like $335.00 is. I might as well have asked them how to cure cancer. TEN FRICKIN PERCENT !?!?!?!?!?!

The response is, "I am not good at math, plus we use calculators" Those calculators should only be used for Trig, Geometry and other advanced math calculations where they already know the basics of arithmetic or when they know but they need to save time in class. They must know the method. They know nothing.

They know Miley Cyrus's shoe size but know nothing our government or history. If you ask them what major document came out of the year 1776, they have that cancer cure stare again. If you were to ask them the years that Hannah Montana came on TV, they would know in a second.
