Well, actually there is, but it is not free to those of us that work hard. I will show you a microcosm of how socialism in small steps seems so harmless and well intentioned, but creeps in and becomes a monster. In 1946 President Truman passed the National School Lunch ACT (NSLA), that had the purpose of not letting the poorest of children go hungry, and provide low cost or free lunch to an elite few. By 1947, the program became the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), and it cost the American tax payer 70 million dollars. Fast forward to 2011, and the NSLP has grown to a cost of over 11 billion dollars to the American tax payer. I recently visited a junior high school, were close to 80% of the 600 students were on free or reduced lunch. I have a novel concept. If you can not afford to send Johnny to school with a bologna sandwich, a bag of chips, an apple and carton of milk, then do not have him. It is not my responsibility to feed the children of lazy people, or to finance meals for children of women with lose morality who lay up with lazy or criminal men. My question is how many of the kids on free lunch go home to a house that has a flat screen TV, cable, internet, video games, beer and cigarettes, all the while wearing 100 dollar Nike shoes, and sporting expensive baggy pants? There is nothing in our constitution that gives the government the power to take from the hard working to finance the lazy and criminal. The first chapter of the Book of James tells me that I am supposed to look after orphans and widows, and that I have no problem doing that (at my level). These little programs always sound so good at first, but in the end, they grow larger and larger, and get out of control. If you do not have a means to afford to feed children, then you should not produce them. |

But with tax programs and welfare systems the way they are now, you can almost make a living by simply having more children if you are 'poor.' Damn leeches. |

I have been to nations that are "poor". I have seen populations of people that eek out a living, eating dry rice, beans, and living in huts, shacks, and shelters with dirt floors. We have very few "poor" in America. We do have a large population of people lacking initiative, morality, drive, who live with outstretched hand, sucking money from those that do work. It baffles me to see our politicians rambling on about the fix for immigration, and how to make 11 million folks into citizens that came here illegally, but not one of them will stand up and ask why we do not first put the 47 million Americans on Food Stamps, welfare, and public housing back to work first. In essence, we pay lazy and criminal people not to work. They commit crimes, they produce like rabbits, and provide nothing. We then bring in people from other nations to do manual labor. It seems a whole lot smarter to let those on welfare do the labor that folks from Central and South America are coming here to do. Dignify and glorify common labor. It is at the bottom of life that we must begin, not at the top. ~Booker T. Washington |

subsudizing the poor to keep them poor and lazy......it means less competition in the workforce. subsidizing poor mothers to get abortions eliminates future criminals because any mother that would abort her baby wouldnt raise a law abiding hard working child. Keeping minorities on the dole means we do not have to deal with them in any way if we choose not to.........Im not sure how the math works but id bet keeping these poor blacks poor and not working means we the crackers make all the money......We just need to find a way to keep the poor poor, we give them housing, food, phones and cash......if we could limit it to food and housing id be all for letting these poor folks opress themselves through the welfare system.......And you are right ranger, I have been to mexico and central america and have seen hard working poor that live way below what we consider poor in this country......maybe we could make a deal with mexico, for every hard working poor mexican they send north, we will send a lazy ass complaing poor negro back. Ill deal with mesicans anyday before i have to deal with a negro. |

Just implement a workforce, you want benefits from the government? Take this push mower and go cut the grass at this park or repaint so and so building. Put em on a road crew hold a stop/slow sign in the middle of summer while others pave the road. Almost like a traveling work but you can go home at night, get paid in housing and food. You quit, get fired, dont work, or dont show you are cutoff. I can understand how some people struggle and need a little help every now and then but they are polar opposites of alot of people in this country. I'd be doing the worst jobs around before being reduced to applying for any kind of public assistance, got too much pride. |

Do yall realize that the schools encourage free lunch? If they sell a lunch to a child, it may be like 1.20 but if they sell it back to the government they get over double the price from the feds. So they make money on those getting free lunch. |
