 I suck at camo stencils!
so i got the great idea last night to camo stencil my boat. well, it appears that my faded green boat is now faded green, smeared bark, and fuzzy grass. still debating on whether i like it better like this or with the ugly faded paint. so how the hell are you supposed to keep the stencil flat on the sides when you have the 'crease' from front to back? I dunno, ill prolly just leave it like this till next year

Re: I suck at camo stencils!
Its not bad. But, when I did my boat, I made a cardboard frame for my stencils. About 2 inches around the stencil helped me make the bend around the crimp.

Jus10 #2, I would take a small brush and flat black paint and put twigs an limbs over that grass in places.

Re: I suck at camo stencils!
use stencil adhesive. can be found at a craft store. you just mist the back of the stencil. works good just dont use too much.

Re: I suck at camo stencils!
Just go back and add another layer or two of accent colors.... Needs more depth... Just a tip though - balancing the artist's alchol content at the time is the real key - too little, no creativity - too much, paint everywhere - LOL links - from search viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8242&hilit=paintviewtopic.php?f=4&t=1106&hilit=paintviewtopic.php?f=4&t=8103&hilit=rattle+can

Re: I suck at camo stencils!
I used the same stencils on my old boat, what I did was remove the motor, took the boat off the trailer, and flipped it over. Then I taped the stencil to the bottom edge of boat, pressed it down to the crimp sprayed, then press on the other side of the crimp, and spray. After about three or four times stop and let the paint on the stencil dry, the start again this prevents the excess paint from smearing on the boat. The paint will build up on the stencil so thick that you will have to stop and crack it and remove from stencil. It's a lot of work but wanted it to look good.
P.S. It's not that bad to go through all the trouble with duck season here, but I would paint the inside it is much easier than the sides.

Re: I suck at camo stencils!
I used a light coat of 3M general purpose adheasive on the back- same concept as what Med posted above with the stencil adheasive. Only on the top layer though to make it crisp, the other layers I used a bent clothes hanger and spray whats flat against the boat.
