13 hp surface drive build.
Ive been lurking around this forum on and off for a while now. I built a mud motor three years ago with my brother and I just decided to build another one. This is a 13 hp honda surface drive. I will be using it as a permanent mounted engine on a small duck hunting / fishing pontoon. I decided to go with a 3/4 x3/8 inch cog belt to get rid of the vibration chain makes and to kill the problems we had with a vbelt setup. I made this all in my shop in my spare time. I was going to make it out of aluminum but my tig welder is down at this time so I made it out of steel. any thoughts on it? just felt like posting pictures somewhere, im pretty proud of it but still working on it and I am sure I will be redoing things. I had to completely manufacture a centrifugal clutch as I could not find one made for this..

I'd love to do the same! How much did it cost you to build?

Re: 13 hp surface drive build.
ill list what I can remember
seals x4 20 bearings x5 50 prop 200 belt and pulleys about 100 the rest were scraps I had around the shop. and probably another 50 bucks in miscellaneous supplies
I am machining a new pulley for it tomorrow to get the belt spacing a bit better (more room where the tensioner pulley presses on the belt. I originally planned on making this out of aluminum, but at the time I did not have my tig welder hooked up as I just moved to a new shop. Now I just need to get some controls so I can mount it on the boat to test the design then I will make it out of aluminum.
