Re: Alternative Option To Custom Mud Boat
If you're gonna run a LT my suggestion is get a 17 or 18 x 42-48 and a Backwaterinc.com 35 swomp Probably run low 20 empty I wouldnt go thinner than a .100g aluminum - some lowe boats are .071 aluminum - little too thin

Re: Alternative Option To Custom Mud Boat
G3 is a great boat, just not ideal for a MM
3600 on a 1652 is a good deal
Is that camo as well? I bet the 35LT will still move that boat, not sure speed wise but it'll move it
IT'LL work, but you'll need some umph to roll with it.
If going LT long and skinny will fly
SD wants them big and wide

Re: Alternative Option To Custom Mud Boat
Yeah for sure the G3 is a nice boat not sure if that price was camo or not. Jake from back water called today and went over the list of different boats I gave him great guy and was very informed in what he was speaking of. He actually went on his computer and pulled up the different boats and we discussed each one and the pros and cons. I think we talked for well over 30 minutes, great customer service for sure.
As I suspected the ideal boat for one of their long tails was the 1548 VBW seeing as that was the only one of all the boats that is a true 0 degree dead rise flat bottom. Problem is the boat is frigging small. Jake said that hull paired with a 27 would be a great little match and would be nice and easy to hide for hunting purposes as well. Then we talked about putting a 35 on that 1548 said it was possible but would feel better about it if we added pods to the boat. He said that hull with a 35 and pods you would be having some fun for sure. I looked up what pods were and man they are damn as ugly if you ask me.
I am still having a hard time with the size, I do hunt alone a lot with just me and the dog or maybe my boy. But I have been hunting and taking more and more guys out and showing them how much fun duck hunting can be and I have been getting more and more takers. I would really like at least a 16 footer that way I can hunt 2 guys for sure maybe 3.
Then there is always the option of modifying and chopping that little 1548 to make use of the long ass front drop deck, cut it back a few feet (looks like the floor space is only 5 feet now), or cutting the center out of it and making a U shape, or cutting 1/3 off of one side and use it as a bench/storage area. As well as cutting the back bench seat making it a walk thru and utilizing that back space if you turned the motor sideways. With some mods I guess you could hunt 2 guys.
Later Phil

Re: Alternative Option To Custom Mud Boat
I think if I get that small boat I will get the 27 EFI for sure, the guy said the 35 with pods but I sure don't like the looks of them and from reading people say they are not the answer.

Re: Alternative Option To Custom Mud Boat
Thanks AR that is a great offer and great info, I think I am just going cheap this year 10k budget and get a smaller boat (new) and either a 27 or a 35 LT (new) depending on the hull and run it for a season or two and sell it then go custom. I just got word from my surgeon that I will be going under the knife on March 3rd and that will put me until the end of July first of August some time before I am cleared 100 percent so just in time for duck season So that is the reason for smaller and cheaper as well as something that is easy for me to get locally. Back Water already quoted me a shipping to my door price I am sure that will change but not a great deal, it's the shipping to Canada that is sweet. There is a will for a Dufo and a stage 2 GTR lol very much like your boat you could call them twins maybe. I will make the trip and pick it up in person when I do. Thanks Phil
