Chauvin thanks will try and get ahold of him soon, back out tonight sitting in my tree stand by myself was getting 23 upstream with the three blade back on and 27 downstream, out of hole is decent by myself if I could get same performance as that with two or more guys would not have any complaints. |

You're adding the weight equivalent of 2 people with 400lbs more boat. That 12 more inches of width with a mod v doesnt counteract that additional boat weight like it would on a flat bottom. The mod v shoves water out of the way more than a flat does, so it doesnt create as much lift for the same dimensions. I understand you wanting to keep it, and why, so here's what I suggest. Mod the crap out of that surface drive (something like what I have built would do, but there are a few different recipes for good power), to include a couple props that are tailored to specific circumstances (primarily deep water, or shallows and needing to plane quickly, etc), or go get your jet outboard. If you mod it, dont just get an exhaust and some mild headwork and call it good. You need umph. Mine with a midweight 1748 (600 ish lbs) would carry 5 men (only 1 under 190lbs) all our guns and gear for a hunt, and plane in about 3 boat lengths and run north of 20. While not the strongest engine ever built, there are more than a couple here that have been in it, run it, or witnessed it to understand it's not a joke. I dont typically lean towards recommending the bigger build to people, but your expectations and needs won't be met without going all out. #CFFITR #TheGhostBoat #whoneedsphysicsihaveamudmotor |

I have a tracker grizzly with a 60hp merc. it runs 30 loaded and 35 with nothing in the boat. it's a lot of boat for a mudmotor. if u get 23-25 with that 40 that is good numbers. that pig of a boat is not a sportscar. lol enjoy it for what it is!!!! |

Yeah I agree with dead animal, with a boat that size and that style with a stock surface drive, you are doing pretty good. A little prop work may help you a little, but like russ said, if you want those bigger numbers in speed, high mods will be in order. If you plan on modding it soon, do that first before you get your props worked, because if not, you will have to rework them. If you are happy with what you have, then get your props worked and get a little more out of what you currently have. |

Russ thanks for your input that why I’m on this site I myself own a construction business I build house not engines, wherewould I start on engine mods. I seen delta performance engines level 3 mods make 60 hp. |

Curious about belt tension on the XD40 anybody know what tension belt is supposed to have? I read something about shims as there is no other way to adjust tension? My belt seems pretty loose, just hit 43 hrs, my mud buddy mini was supposed to be around 18 lbs at a 1/4” or whatever, I know I am no where close to that on this motor. |

I have a 40XD on a 18/54 .125 bottom and sides and im getting 32-33 mph alone and 30-31 with 2 people. im very pleased with the performance. I have a gatortail 2 blade prop, just wondering if I have it worked if I would do any better? |

Last fall was running a back water performance two blade, it sucked. Along with the gtr 3 blade. Bought the gtr fatblade 2 blade this spring, it seemed to solve a lot of the issues I had. Tiller torque isn’t that bad, hole shot is good, top speed down river 28 one guy, upriver 23-24, with the whole family 26-27 downstream, 22-23 upstream. Still a stock 40, it’s amazing what playing with the props has done. The only con I can come up with now is a little prop slap on the water and occasional vibration at mid throttle, from the prop. I am approaching 100 hrs on the motor now, only issue I have had is a voltage regulator, fully covered by Briggs, and a frozen throttle cable last late fall, 20 degrees after a rainy hunting trip the weekend before. Totally different tune from previous posts, but definitely found a good combo for my rig and all the weight.i noticed there hasn’t been any activity on this thread for a while. |

That fat blade is an excellent load carrying prop. You may want to get it balanced and sharpened, which should help the vibration issues |

I run the hammer props which are not sharp and vibrate alot new. Couple passes down the sand bar and they wear in fine. Not the best for speed but handles load well |
