I'm Matt from Eagle River, Alaska. Just picked me up a 1648 crestliner riveted jon with a Go devil 25hp Longtail. Not much to choose from in the used department up here. Especially when scouting for a good deal. I still got hosed though haha compared to what you guys pay for a used rig, or hell even a new one. I got a Chocalate Lab pup who is in his 3rd month of training. I lost my pointer last year and this is her replacement. Never really hunted ducks, but , Ill be hunting them for sure this year! All I can think about is blasting a duck, and watching my dog retrieve it. And moose hunting of course.. Ive been going to this moose hunting spot 3 years in a row now. Its a good spot and we always get one. But man its duck heaven as well. Millions of them it seems. This spot is like a 12 hour ordeal to get there. So I have never went in just for ducks. But I hear the first couple weeks of season are spectacular. I have a jet boat Ive been using, but its only good for the river to the spot. The rest of the spot is swamp. Its a 12 river mile ride to the place where it starts getting swampy. So a longtail might be not fun on the way there and back but once in the ponds I think it will be sweet. I'm sorta young yet, I think I can handle it. I was real close to getting like a 10 or 12 foot boat with a real small HP longtail. That way I could just put in the jet boat for the ride down and back. Plus the jet boat will go 35 mph. I can be at camp in half hour. I'm still second guessing the decision for the 16 foot boat. Also the first mile or so of the river is very shallow and rocky. So I'm thinking ill just use the beat up prop for that part then change it to a good one downstream. Or get the rockguard kit. Anyway I had the boat out and it was slow. Im hoping its just the prop. So I got a fresh one ordered. I have a tach on the motor and its hitting 4000 rpms OOW. And from what I can tell that's about right. But in the water It does about 2800-3000. And Im guessing 10 mph or so with two 200 pund guys and 6 gallons of gas |

Hey all, good to finally be part of the club (sort of). My brother recently purchased a 1860 GoDevil and we're super excited for the upcoming duck season! We hunt E Texas, usually Lake Fork, because my brother has some property there. I live in Bossier City, unfortunately, and I travel over there to hunt as I don't own a boat just yet. I've tried posting in the motor forum but I guess I'm not allowed yet. We're just looking to get some answers to the "new to us" boat questions. Anyway, good to be here and I look forward to learning about the new boat and sharing experiences and info here. Thanks! |

I have a new beaverton duck boat 1860 it's a center console setip with a 35 gatortail mud motor. The motor runs 4200rpm out of the water and the second it gets under load only runs about 2100-2500rpm. Max speed on the boat is 6.5pmh. Something is definitely going on here.just can't figure it out. Any insite on the situation would be very much appreciated. Thank you |
