Having a hard time finding a reasonably priced, quality trailer.

Other than McClain and Magic Tilt, what else is out there??????

I have never been impressed with Magic Tilt but I saw a Gator Trail, manufactured by them (I think) that looked pretty good. Set up for a mud boat with plastic boards and this one had wide tires.

Post Re: Boat Trailers
I bought a sportsman galvanized trailer from Black's Marine in Lafayette, and I'm happy with it so far. Priced about the same as a McClain, but it seems to have a longer box section than the McClain's I've seen. Pulls great. I had them add LED lights. The only problems I've seen with it is the wiring is not enclosed (it's a C-channel trailer) and they put Carlisle tires on it.

All galvanized are priced in the same range. If you got the dollas and wanting a new one go aluminum and be done. Pro Drive got em, and I'm sure many others do. My boat came with one, it's a backtrack by Xpress.

I got a Dixie Craft trailer with my rig and I have to say it's an impressive trailer. Well built.

What are you wanting galvanized, powder coat, painted?

What size?

How quick do you need one?

Get one built by Brother or Willy. You will be happier in the long run.

I only know of a couple of places that might can galvanize one but know of several places that can powder coat one and it'll make it alot lighter especially liftin up off the truck and such

I can weld aluminum but dont have a shop or machine right now that can weld aluminum but can build you a steel one.

Mostly need to know length of boat, length or trailer you want, and the beam of the boat and if it has much of a flare on the sides (brother puts a large flare in the front of his skiffs, dunno bout his bateaus)

Otherwise brother can build you a damn nice trailer to go with a damn nice boat.

There is a place in Houston that Galvanizes. We use a place here in Baton Rouge at work, but getting it done isnt too cheap.

Galvanizing adds about 6% - 8% to the weight of a fabricated piece. Its been a few years but as I remember I charged $300 for a single axle and $350 for a double axle minimum at $.38 per pound. Might not be as expensive as you think.

place here in Fort Worth called Aztec Galvanizing that will do it. They did my airboat trailer for $400, and it's not a small trailer.

I would stay away from powder coat. It doesn't hold up very well in my opinion.

OTL you are correct with your 6% ish weight increase. and most galvanizing shops charge you on the weight of the peice for pricing.

Hmm not too bad may be lower or higher with the economy

Aztec is also in waskom and would use them if that's the route he or anyone wanted to take

The trailer I have is black powder coat and although its only bout 6 months old I haven't seen any problems out of it but only time will tell and is a lot lighter than my old McClain and has more material in it
