Post What size cable??
For PD 36 winch trim?

Noticed my cable has a broken strand in it.

3/16" or 1/4"

Or does it matter?

I think it's 1/4", but I ain't sure. I usually just get 1 from KP. 1 broke strand ain't really gonna hurt.... I run 'em 'till dey snap, then just tape da end up, re-route, tie a figure 8 knot in da end, and keep runnin it. I might do this 3 times before actually replacing da cable. Just keep sum metric allan wrenches in da boat.

*tip* when da cable breaks it's hard to work with da freyed end sumtimes, so I tape it and da closest clean spot, then cut it using my cane knife as a cable cutter and an old prop as a hammer. lol

*another tip*

a .357 magnum will not shoot through da cable if u don't have any other means to cut it.

don't ask me how I know. lol

yep, forget the wirerope and get the synthetic rope.

after seeing sumbody with it on theirs, i went to the hardware store and bought a peice of 1/4" 10'long and sum 5/16" 10 long and maybe even sum 3/8" 10' long.

it ie as easy on the hands as rope but is stronger than the stainless cable.
u just can't chafe it alot or it will not last.
i ended up with the 5/16" on my winch. it was a bitch to get through the hole in the transom thingy, but my motor is so old that i think there is a differant style out there and won't be a problem.

i been having the same peice of rope on there since before hunting season and it ain't broke yet [over 100hrs]. when it does i will just tie it back together.

the 1/4" was like $1.5 a foot the 5/16" or 3/8" was like $2.5 a foot.

still way cheaper than the 30$ one u get from pd.

i keep the easy to install 8' peice of 1/4" rope in the front deck of the boat in case i break it one day.

sooooo,
i highly recommend it from my personnal experiance.
