Post Make the engine surface?
What would want to make the prop come out of the water? I have a 35 GDSD with 90 hrs. has some prop wear but nothing drastic. I've bent my trim tabs and it wants to run about half the prop out of the water. I heard on longtails it's a worn prop. I have to pull up on the handle to get it to run right.

Bent the trim tabs up toward the cav. plate. It hops out the water about 100 yds. into a run then it seems to go to the same spot. Even trimmed it down below normal and goes back.

Has this always happen? Any changes to the original set-up? What type of boat are you running?

Well I bought the engine used and it has done it from the day I bought it. I'm running an xpress 1650 Duck boat. This never happened when I had the 27 on it. Kinda got me stumpped.

La

The 35 GDSD is very neutrally balanced - when the prop has about 1/4 inch of wear it will do what you are describing - where you have to lift the handle to keep it in the proper trim position - new prop time...

Take it to Baggy's prop shop in Houma. He can fix you up.

La,

The 27 was about 20 pounds tail heavy - 35 is not....

Prop wear is deceptive - if you measure the blade width at half way
down to the tips - that is where most "sand wear" occurs.....

New prop....

Just went through this debate with my buddy - night and day difference
now with the new prop on....

Without seeing the tabs, my 1st suggestion would be bend the tabs more. Go to an area where you can run the boat. Bring a adjustable wrench or very large channel locks, try the boat. If the condition still persist pull over and bend the tabs a little more. Keep this process until motor rides on the trim. I have set three GDSD and each one was a little different. Warren told me that the motor should ride on the trim, so when it is adjusted correctly you should be able to slow the RPM'S by trimming the motor down, the motor should be on the trim. This should take care of your problem, just a little trial and error. Good luck

Ain't quite sure how to measure a 3 blade, but Donna @ Go Devil said to the widest point. I measured mie with a blde top center to the tip of the blade to the right and got 10"

if the motor has alway done this since you purchased it, I really think it just needs to be adjusted. Call Warren at GoDevil and see what he suggest before you start spending money.

La,

Take your old prop and measure against a new one....

Bet you will find that you have more wear than you thought,
especially at mid blade where you least expect it - half way from
the hub out to the blade tip - I think that is what causes the
prop lift you are having..... No clue if just cup would help ?

Only way I could convince my buddy was a mid day prop swap
where he put my new 3 blader on - and I put his worn one on....

Night and day difference....

On your surface drive more cup will normally cause the prop to rise in the water not bite more. Do not be scared to bend those two tabs. They are what controls the prop height. When the prop floats like you are describing, bend the tabs a little more and you should have it. Nice speeds!!

Will bend tabs and rerun the boat. When I beat brother in law I had 100 lbs more than him in the boat too.

I don't know about the GDSD but the GT your supposed to run with half the prop out the water for maximum performance.

your motor should not be floating, it should ride on the trim. This will help you when you are running in vegataion. You should not have to stand and hold pressue upward unless you are running lillies. If your motor is floating it pops up when you hit anything in the water. You should be able to drive your boat with no pressure from you. Water pressure pushes the 2 tabs down when they are properly adjusted.

It is hard to measure these props accurately without some kind of jig.I thought mine was a little worn until I went to prodrive for some maintence and had KP check my prop to see if I needed a new one. When we measured it one blade was a 1/4 inch longer than the other.Don't really know that happend.
