Don't know how your winch is set up, but my 4 wheeler winch has a switch that is connected to probably a 16ga wire that runs to the solenoid. It operates the solenoid which carries the load from the battery to the winch by means of probably a 6 ga wire. So what i'm saying is that if you are going to a solenoid, keep the solenoid, battery, and winch fairly close, because they will have the heavy wire. The switch doesn't carry a load in that situation. If your battery is in the back of the boat, I would mount my solenoid under the back corner of the boat or under the battery box lid and connect them together with 6 ga. wire, then come from my solenoid to my winch in the front with a 4 or 2 ga wire. |

yea i was thinkin have to be at least a #2 wire, pretty good voltage drop even thou it aint but 3' from back da boat.. hell it takes a #8 to run from the winch to the motor trim, and thats only lil more than a ft! i need to look at mounting a relay maybe. |

Here, Hook up your winch to this solenoid, then the solenoid to the battery, #8 will probably work for this. I thought you were going to the winch in the front of the boat. Put your solenoid in the battery box or under the back corner of your boat. Might want to add a curcuit breaker in the line. Come off the soleniod with 16 ga. wire to a momentary on-off-on switch mounted to the handle bar. A drawing will come with the solenoid. I just bought one to replace the one on my 4 wheeler. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WARN-WIN ... ccessories |

If u don't run a relay you will eventually burn up your toggle/rocker switch because they are only good for so many amps. Now as forward as the wire from the winch to the battery I would think a 10guage wire would be sufficient, if u want to go a Lil bigger run an 8guage. Anything bigger is simply overkill. But even tho a 16 guage wire will work the winch now I think once u really have a load on the winch and its starving for juice a small wire will just burn up |

My butt pirate buddy Sanders told me to ask you this. But if you can't figure out how to wire up an electric fuel pump, how in the sam hell do you think you will be able to figure out a relay/toggle switch set up? |
