Post subject:  PD throttle sleeve problem

My throttle has been getting harder and harder to twist. Now it is so bad the grip has come loose. I have taken it all apart and cleaned it as well as used silicone on the rubber/teflon sleeve. It seems to be getting worse. I remember PW saying to not use WD-40. Anyone else have this problem and have a good solution? Thanks for the help!

Mine did too. I took the bushings out and using a drill bit that was a little tight in the hole, reamed it out. Just held the bushing in my hand as I drilled. Spray some type of lubricant on while drilling to keep the bit turning smooth and so it doesn't take a big bite out the rubber. Worked fine for me.

Dayum good idea by Poker, I made the mistake of using a petroleum based product on mine when I first got my PD, I ended up replacing the rubber bushings with PVC ones. But I eventually went back to the rubber ones, I just soaked them in a bowl of a 50/50 mix of aluminum bright and H2o over night then threw them on the dash of the truck for a few hours the next day. This will remove the oil and shrink them back down. I personally haven't had a lick of problems since.

In the future like River said, make sure only use str8 silicone or graphite. ;)

How do you get them out?

I made a puller tool, but you can used a couple old butter knives. just bent the ends down 90* a half an inch from the tip.( you may be able to get it out with just one, it took 2 to get mine out.) insert it until you feel it get passed the bushing then wiggle it down between the back the bushing and the aluminum handle then pull, you might have to work it top to bottom and side to side. good luck!

Took both of the sleeves out and soaked them in Dawn and that seemed to do the trick. I am back to normal. Where are you guys finding 100% silicone spray? I had to use this dialectic grease stuff. All the silicone sprays had petroleum disulates in them??

pulled my rubber out and cut two pieces of 3/4 " carflex about 4" long and slid them down the shaft to replace the old rubber ones and put some grease on it and have not had any problem since. and that was over two years ago.
