Post subject:  Newbie questions on mud motor

Hello I am going to be buying a mud motor in the next 2 months and am just wanting to get some everyday info/feed back from you guys. First off I know no one with a mud motor, heck havent even seen one in person, no one up here has one!!!! So I'm as new to these as it comes. I know I want a 20's horse, long tail, used. I hear that Kohler and Vanguard are good engines (but im sure its like the difference between ford and chevy). I am kinda just looking for some general info on these motors. What are normally the main problems with them (i hear alot about belts and props) how long do they run (are they like a yamaha outboards that runs forever or ATV's that die after 4 years) Do they all come with 360 degree turn for transport? Just general stuff what to look out for, what are the normall issues, past experience, what surprised you the first time you bought one.

I plan to hunt this on a wide varity of water, everything from the flooded CA areas here in MO to the Missouri river which is fast current.

Thanks for any information
and forgive my ignorance on this topic

Nathan

I have a 23hp lt it pushes my boat just fine. As far as the motors go all it is is a lawnmower motor so if you service it regularly it should not give you many problems. Check out my rig in the for sell section under 14 ft Jon w/23hp gdlt.

If you dead set on LT, Go Devil is the way, keep her greased, fresh oil & filter, and general maintance and you will not be disappointed. Most of the new ones are 360 degree swivel.
