I saw a guy last year hunting in the north flats with a regular outboard. While 90% or us where running some sort of mm. He was going everywhere we were going. Including the thick lillies like they weren't there. I thought to myself aside from the jack plate he has to have something else. Low and behold he pulls up to the ramp and pulls off some type of fin from the bottom of his boat. My questiin is what is it and where can I get one? |

We have run 25 hp tunnel boats with keel for years. They really work great , just always have the worry of overheating with a water pump. PM some of the boat builders on here, they will point you in the right direction. |

probably had screens over his intakes on his outboard for preventing vegetation from getting in his pump. With screens and a jack plate, keel guard, you can go just about anywhere with an outboard.... but not quite everywhere you can with a mm. |

While your at it, extend your tattle tell along the side your boat and make it piss to the front and off to the side in front of the drivers seat. Now you won't have to keep looking back to see if the water pump is working. |

Run the jackplate with a tunnel to get the cavitation plate level with the top of the tunnel. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVOfwqncnY4 This 25 hp Mercury on a mudflat is crazy. Many of you have seen it before, but it is still a good example of what the right setup can accomplish. |

They got the same guy runnin some flats. Only thing I'm worried about with that keel is hitting stuff. The jack plate seems more feasible for what I wanna do, plus it has a keel. |

Fowl, you, others and myself are overly impressed with that lilly cutter. I went with T al to the Basin last year in early summer. He put that lilly cutter on his boat when we left the ramp. My jaw was locked wide open with what that boat cut through that day. To this day I am still memorized with what his boat did. He has a seventeen foot crawfish skiff, jackplate, stainless mesh over intake and the lillty cutter. That boat is set up perfect. However one must always be looking back to make sure the motor does not overheat. We would stop every now and then in the clear and let the motor run clean water to ensure the mesh was not clogged up. His boat had a Yamaha 85 two stroke on it. Its a Dugas skiff. Its a F...ing awesome rig. If I ran anything like what we did that day I would have its twin. Those crawfisherman know how to get'r done. |
