I have a 1546 Express Duck Boat. Looking for suggestions on size and brands of surface drives. I don't need to go through really bad stuff, and also want to use this boat to fish in small lakes. Currently looking at Prodrives, Gatortails and Go-Devils. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Do you think a 23 or 27 hp go-devil or pro-drive will get me around 25 mph in deep water with this boat? |

Any of them will get you around that speed, atleast within a couple mph's. |

Thanks for the info. Not really concerned with speed, but i want to also continue to fish with this boat so i would be traveling in some deeper water at times... Is it true that surface drives are actually slower in deeper water or does that have to do with each boat? I appreciate any and all information. I have never owned a surface drive. Do have an older longtail that is used on a small 14ft boat just for duck hunting. This boat i currently have, i want it to double for duckhunting and fishing..ohh and the 3 or 4 time a yr frogging... |

its not that they are slower in deep water, any rig u put in the mud is faster, because the boat lifts up |

I have a 23 GDSD and i will have a gps in a couple days dont have time tomorrow but i know its in the 20's deep water and does real good in heavy grass and such. like what dude said bout the boat bein higher. i wouldnt go no hevi-er than a 23 due to back wash when you shut it down in deep water. |

Sounds good.. i was either thinking 23 or 27... Thats about where my budget stops. Now... i guess i need to make the big decision... GDSD, GTR, or Pro-Drive... The GDSD has the best price, but i have heard so many great things on Pro-Drive and GTR also.... Decisions.... |

i forgot i get 26 mph with me and my dog and sack of decoys with my 23 gdsd in deepwater just did a gps yesterday so you get a 27 you may get some good asss speed. only thing is i think xpress's transom angle is to steep for the SD cuz i have dont have enough trim to put it high enough to where it need to be at (on step) performance so i have to hold it where it needs to be. |
