| Post subject: | MY 16 X 44 NEEDS A NEW MOTOR...GOT ??????'S |
Hey guys, Got some questions for ya'll... I need to get a new motor for my 16x44 go-devil boat.. I've been thinking about a 35hp shallow drive motor. Is the weight of a 35 going to be too much for that boat? I'm a big guy and don't know if it can take that much weight in the back of the boat. Would it just be a problem when stopping? Would I have to make any mods to the boat? What kind of speeds could I expect out of a 35 on a 16x44? As of now my top choice would be a GdSd 35, mostly b/c I've had a Gdlt 25 for years and always got great service from go-devil and they are the closest to my home.. thanks for any help or suggestions..... |

My neighbor has the same boat as you and he put a 23 GTR on it which weighs a lot less than any 35. He had to get a welder to beef up the transom height substantially. About 4-6 inches. It worked out fine for him, but he is not running consistenly in open big deep waters such as any open lakes, rivers and bays. Mostly interior marsh. I would say he weighs in about the 230 pound range. Speed is relative to so many different variables. I think it would be safe to say you would be running anywhere from 26-30 mph with that set up. It just depends on the conditions and load on any given day. Hope this helps. |

i knew two people with 16x44 godevil boats. one with a 35 mudbuddy and one with a 31. both boats ran good but both had to watch out when slowin down to fast because of back wash comin over the transom but im sure that could be reduced to a minimum with some stick time and a bildge pump. but if you are wanting to go with the godevil, there is only a 20 pound difference between the 27 hp and the 35. the 27 being 245 and the 35 @ 265. but i would have someone build your transom up to 20", slap some green paint on it and throw a high transom 35 hp go devil SD and be done with it. i also like how there is no extra charge for a tall transom model go-devil. |

yep, just buildup the transom to 20" or whatever gd says and get the 35 gdsd, that boat would drive like a sports car |

I'm running a 36PD on a 1844 hull with no issues, I did build the transom up to help reduce backwash tho. There is a 31 lb difference between a 27 kohler and a 36 briggs, just move the gas tank to the front and run a motorcycle battery for starting the engine. |

i just put a 35 GDSD on my Godevil 1644 last spring. I didn't need to do anything special and am having no problems. Go to the Reviews page and you'll see my speeds. It's around 30 mph with just me and the dog in there and I go about 235. Doesn't slow down much with extra person, coolers, etc. etc. You'll be happy. |

I"ve seen a 35 GDSD on a 1644 godevil boat, and it did fine. definitely watch when you slow down, but that goes for any short transom boat. I've also seen a 36 PD on the same boat do good as well... |

Thanks for all in advise, but solved the whole problem by just putting the 35GDSD on the back of a new 16x60 GdSd boat w/split bench seats and added a poling platform for the reds later........... tbuc, I looked at your review a 100 times, cool boat....love the bimini.. Gonna splash it tommorrow, then maybe try to kill some teal Sunday.. |
