That little boat was getting 17 with a longtail. You need more power. You should be getting 30 at least before you stop trying :)

What size shaft is that? Id like to see how you did the seals in outdrive. You ran 4 bearings total, shielded or sealed? Bearing caps in both ends? Need some ideas for my dixie as far as seals go. There is none in the pulley side, just a bearing cap, and Im getting grease in belt housing if full.

Well I finally got a good motor for it and got it running yesterday.

Was going to get a 14 hp kholer but decided against it.

Ended up with a 10 hp Vangaurd. Seems like a decent motor.

Going to get the kill switch and starter rigged on the handle soon so I can put it in the water.

If everything goes right I will be using this most of the season.

I will get some speeds when I get it on the water.

Running good so far. Used it a few times this year.

Doesn't run as fast as the 12 hp I had on it at the beginning but still goes pretty good!

Definitely need another rig though. Can't haul but 2 people and gear in this one.

I'm going to build another one this summer to have a haul rig.

Had to re rig my handle. It broke twice. It was only made out of emt.

Had some 1 1/4" square bars so had the end turned round and bolted it on this time. Hopefully it will hold up.

Speeds are about 20 solo and 17 with 2 people.

Just out of curiosity , how low do you have the drive shaft in relation to the boat ? Like is it flush with the bottom of the boat?

I know you said it's running same gear ratio as 12hp copperhead, but could you say what that is? I'm putting a Briggs animal that's been modded for more bottom and mid range torque on a Dixie 6.5 frame. Should be around 10-12hp running at 5k rpm, with 6.1k rev limiter. My gear ratio is 1.43 to 1. I'm trying to decide whether to go 10x8 or 9x7, so I'm curious what ratio your using with 10x8

Man I'm not sure what ration it is. I can't remember what tooth pulleys are on it.

I'm running a 10 hp now and a 10x8 it just rite. I think a 9x7 would be way to small.
