I dont think its enough, but it saves weight on an already heavy hull. Dude is wanting a 1/4 bottom, so he may be in some bad shit. |

Cat walks sound good! How wide?? The move able seats are a great idea will do for sure! The reason I want a 1/4" bottom is because we have a ton of rock ledges sitting right below the water on the rivers I run. Try floating down the river at 5-8" mph and slamming into a rock on the side of the boat. Dent's aren't what I would call them when this happens more like crators on the side of the boat lol. 3/16" bottom to 1/4" bottom only adds 60lbs and the 1/8" to 3/16" sides adds like 60lbs so your looking at adding 120lbs the entire boat so I weigh 150 lbs and my buddy weighs 170 so that's 320lbs if you have 2 225lb guys that 450 so the boat will weigh the same with me and my buddy vs 2 225 lb guys or is my thinking wrong? the batterys are 1 for the motor and lights and the other two are to run a 24 volt trolling motor. 12 volt trolling motors are useless in my rivers. gtr 35 with a stage 1 won't push it I will put a 150 jet on it and say out of the mud. It's more important to me to have hull protection vs mud motor and jet motor. |

That was last spring floating down the river and a rock caught the side of my boat, and capsized me and threw me and my girlfriend into 47 degree water. we floated down the river a 1/4 mile through rapids before finally getting out. I came a hair from drowning. I was hyperthermic, I had to do cpr on my girlfriend she stopped breathing for over 3 minutes I just about lost her. That was .100 sides when it hit the rock the side collapsed flipping the boat. If I had 3/16" sides I think it would have bounced of the rock instead of caving in. |

Maybe you should look into a Teflon bottom, if you ran it up the sides about 8" that would be badass |

Maybe even a round chine boat, it would probly deflect off the rocks smoother |

i love round chines but i think you would bent the hell out of them in bad rocks. i would build 1/4'' bottom with double taper |

Thanks guys I didn't miss church for 6 months after that lol!! Yeah she is fine now and to my surprise she still goes out on the water with me. She had to spend a week in the hospital since you inhaled all that water. I don't think I could have lived with myself if she had died. It is forever burned in my mind of me pulling her out of the water with her lips blue almost black! I talked to marks airboats and he said if you have sharp rocks it will just cut through a UHMW bottom, but I am going to talk to rockproof boats more about it since they have alittle more experience with it in rocks. I wouldn't mind round chines but I need to drift as shallow as possible when floating so I think that cuts round chines out. I do hunt in west TN, Ohio, and Arkansas so that's why I am wanting a mud motor to, but I can get by with a jet if I have to. I wouldn't want to go any longer and wider since our back water sloughs have narrow ditches to get to them off the water. I have a center console now and I am sure a lot of guys love them but I will never get a center console again. I can't maneuver it like a tiller handle. So how wide of catwalks should I get? |

A piece of 2x3 3/16 angle welded onto a simple factory gunnel does wonders for stiffening up the sides. Makes them about 5" wide total. |

If you want to actually walk across them on a regular basis, go at least 6". |

Here is mine in 6" on a 1854. Sometimes I wish they were 8" as you don't really lose any floor space. |
