The trailer I'm runnin' is a home made POS. I paid way too much for some guy to work on it for me, putting a swing away tongue, jack, replace bearings, new wiring, ball coupling, chains.... I got it by trading a rifle I no longer wanted or needed and the title says it was built in 1972. Today as I was getting towards home I noticed that a tire was wobbling. The nuts worked free from the studs and totally thrashed the rim along with the studs. When I pulled it off I noticed that there was a shitload of water inside of it. It is a dual axle so it pulls and backs really nice, but it's got a walking suspension so if I lose just one of the four wheels, I am fucked.

I am probably $700 deep in this thing and not very confident in it.

Say I was to take this thing to someone who builds trailers and tell them to use all the good parts and build me up a good trailer with new axles and hubs, except for the new hub I just bought today. How much would a competent welder charge? Ballpark?

Also, is there an axle system that would allow me to keep it a dual yet be operational if I blow a tire? Not two torsion axles though, that would break the bank.

Blasted bunch of duckies this morning from another MT spot that only the mud rig can get to. I am getting sick of telling people what it is at the gas station. People keep asking me how that little fan moves enough air to push the big boat.

Just a question...

How big of a boat do you have? Are tandem axles really necessary?

No, tandem not necessary, that is what was on it when I got it. However, it is nice that my boat rides smooth as silk and bumps are a non issue. Also, it allows me to run 12" rims instead of larger ones which helps with the launches I am currently using. The water is kind of low. I am towing this thing 500 miles a week! Tandem is kind of nice?

I have an aluminum trailer from prodrive that i love, but pricey. It will last forever with a little maintence and it is rated for 3200 lbs.

If you are towing your trailer 500+ miles a week, I would pay a little extra for a well built trailer. Several factors can really make one trailer better than another. For a good one new expect to pay around 2000, but you wont regret it.

Or PM mcnemar1982, he is a trailer FE!
