this will be my first mud motor, its a 27hp mud buddy sport. I am an avid duck hunter. Any advice on upkeep etc... would be greatly appreciated. I took excellent care of my old outboard and it paid off, so I am looking to do the same with this one. Does a K & N filter help any on this? i have read up and seen not to really mess with them too much and run them stock. Any help would be good.

Leave your motor as is, wear your kill switch and have fun. The more you run it the more you will learn what the motor can and cannot do.

Make sure that if you are running through hyacinth that there is water under them

thanks fellas for all the advice. what about the K&N filter worth anything to put it on a stock motor? I know on my atv it added some horse power but the main power came from the new exhaust on the atv. any thoughts. I will post a review with speeds and everything just as soon as i get in the water. I have a 2006 1548 tracker grizzly aluminum. I was getting up to 28 mph w my 25hp mercury 2 stroke, but it was worthless cause the speed wasnt getting me back where the ducks where so thats that. I hear i should be around 25 or 26 solo with gear, gas, and battery so we will see. It beats the heck out of getting out of the boat at o dark 30 to drag it through the low spots of the river which at times were a long ass drag!!

it's gonna take u 30 hrs sticktime to learn how to run the motor halfass, u can worry about ruining the warrantee with mods later, go learn how to drive the thing and have fun. :)

I've got a 27 mini. The best advice I'll give you is instead of gettin the 27 Sport, spend another $500 and get a 35 Hunter. The difference was unreal. I like my lil mini, but the shorter shaft and lack of power gets me into trouble. I've got buddies with the 35 LA Special and it runs circles around me and is up and out while I'm still fightin the stick.
