Motor for 1636 mud hull
I recently bought a 1636 mud hull it was a really good deal. I'm now looking for the best motor for the boat. I know a 23hp longtail would be good. What about a 23hp copperhead its only 138lbs. Would a 25hp or 27hp longtail be better at 185lbs to 195lbs or would that be to much weight. I will be using it in hard and soft bottom there are a couple of logs and stumps I have read a longtail is good for hard bottoms because of the smaller props serface drive is good for long runs and soft bottoms. I think if the stern squats alot because of the heavy motor it would hurt the shollow water performance.

Swomp lite frame with a 23 would be the ticket.

23 copperhead would probably work well if you want the SD route. I put mine on my buddies 1638ish go devil duck skiff and it performed very well. He now runs a 23 swomp and it runs very well, just not nearly as fast unloaded as the copperhead.

Going to be hard to beat the Backwater Swomp 23 for that boat if you want a long tail. I've also been impressed with the Copperheads I've seen run and think it would be a good choice as well.

I run a 1536 scullys skiff with a 23 copperhead. Its an awesome little rig. Runs 29-31 with me(depending on current). With me 230lbs, wife 140lbs, kid 75lbs, full 65qt cooler, small tools, and misc things for the day we run 24-25 up current and 26+ down current.
