I picked up a tall transom mudbuddy 35 for a price i couldnt pass up. I am currently making a jack plate at work (tool and die shop) when im done i am going to send it out to get powder coated. My question is will i hurt anything by running the tall transom motor on the the short transom boat until im finished? Just want to how it runs and get on the water. |

Short answer, No. It wont hurt anything. It will move the boat. But..... You wont see any type of good performance. You will probably get wet too. The belt housing with be hitting water and probably splash it back into the boat. |

well i already bought the stock. maybe ill try it then build my transom up in the winter. |

buying a 2014 mud buddy 35 with 90 hours on it for 3 grand was a pretty sound choice. anything is better then my shitty longtail. |

Not the first time, and wont be the last! In short, " hey guys I got a tall transom motor, and short transom boat. Will it work?" "No man, build up your transom and then you will be happy, mudmotor don't really work well with jack plates either" "Well thanks for yall answers, but im gunna do what the fuk I wanna do and forget I even asked the question!"

I am all for building up my transom. i really just want to get back on the water im not to concerned about performance at the moment. the jack plate is just a temporary solution. like i said i already paid for the stock and have the equipment to do it. i plan on buying a new boat in the near future anyway. i never asked if it would work well or even asked about a jack plate all i wanted to know was if it was bad for the motor to run on short transom. |

Always cracks me up how guys come on here asking for advice/reassurance and when they don't get it and guys try to help them from making a mistake they'll later regret, they go ahead and do it anyway. If you're gonna do it anyway, why ask??? |

The skeg is there to be the primary point of contact for any underwater obstructions. A tall transom motor on a short transom boat would make the belt housing the first point of contact for any rock or log you may come across... at which point potentially rendering a purchase of "sound choice" broken and useless. As mentioned before, assuming your transom is at the correct angle for the motor, I would buy a short transom belt housing and go on your merry way. A home-brewed jack plate would work... as long as you're building up and not up and back, as moving he motor back would effect performance from the standpoint of where your prop is in relation to the surface of the water (the farther back, the higher the level of water is, which would put you past the amount of trim capable of placing the prop at the optimal level). Long story short I guess and he simplest answer as stated before is yes it would push the boat. But so would a five dollar paddle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
