They gonna have to show and demo them damn things, youtube videos will not get me to spend the over 10k for something I haven't driven, much less seen in action. Same goes for those Freedom Mud Motors. Both need to show at one of these fun runs and demo the goods. I ready to up grade to get away from the old GTR reverse. Hell I even got the funds, I'm just waiting on somebody to show, place, and win!

Holy hoses!

I like it, but I don't like that steering set up.

I wouldn't classify it as a tiller steer, more of an electric steering stick.

I'm like you Cypress. I'm ready to spring for a new motor with a real reverse. So far from what I have driven the real reverse is yet to be seen. That's why I'm still rolling a gdsd from 2005.

Looks like a Mercury Big Tiller kit with hydro assist steering. If so, Mercury has been offer this kit for high HP outboards for around 10 years. It also has a price tag around $2400

How the hell is he turning it? Is it just a slight movement with the tiller?

Yeah. It's a hydraulic system, when you move the handle, it opens a valve on one side of the system to turn the motor. Mercury and Honda both have a version.
Edit: I didn't look closely. It may be an electric.

And thats the part that would worry me. Not reliability wise but more so could get you in trouble quickly in some narrow stuff. If you have to have a quick reaction turn theres no room for operation error there i would think..

You could just order the boat with a bigger bumper and strap yourself to the transom.

Problem solved.

New boat design: heavy springs holding the pipe front on the boat, smaller springs on the gunnel near the back with some flat bar to work as a bumper. ;)

Willow trees at least a little flexible, it would be one of those big ass cypress trees that would be what I worry about. They sure do a number on those "jet skis" and the id10t driver.

Ain't no way I'd buy a motor with that kind of steering. Ever tried to trim or tilt your motor up and down fast? Same would be true with any kind of electical/hydraulic steering. It would never respond fast enough for some situations. I challenge someone to run through flooded timber or even a marsh with several tule patches and maneuver around them with that type of steering. Can't be done at anything more than the slowest idle speed. Nice try, Boss Hoss but back to the drawing board.

One user on here does have the console model of the motor. He has a custom boat getting built now so I would expect reviews from him in 2-3 weeks. I'll push him to give reviews on here.

It's a time proven steering set up used on high dollar boats and race boats , so I think it will move faster than u think

Even regular hydraulic steering is not fast enough in the timber. So???????
A manual tiller steer is maybe not faster but a lot more "controllable" in those tight situations. This is the same as a plug remote steering(like winch controller) they use on those fishing "yacht". ok for open water but not so in "confined" waters.

This steering debate reminds me of a conversation between my mom and dad when I was a kid. Mom wanted a new tv with remote control. My dad was defensive about the remote and how 'we' did not need one. He would just say Randy go change the channel. I would get up walk over to the tv and turn the knob through all four channels until he said put it back to where we started.

There is no difference between this and hydro steering on a center console as far as safety is concerned
