Shout Out to KP
Clutch went bad after only 30 hours on it. this will be the 4th clutch with 370 hrs on the motor. KP is covering the cost of the clutch for me, but I am also replacing the nylon bushings in the LU not knowing if the LU slop has something to do with my issues.
Thank you KP, PD best customer service!!
I am hearing that the heavy duty after market clutch has been also not been lasting for some. Any truth to this?

Re: Shout Out to KP
Take a little time to go over your wiring and connections exspecially at the switches . A loose or bad connection somewhere will smoke a clutch from not staying fully locked in

Re: Shout Out to KP
Thanks Will. Completely rewired the harness end of last year. But this one was weird as the entire top half of the clutch was completely loose and rattling. The clutch brake disengaged as well as the prop is free spinning when the motor is off, no tension at all.
I thought maybe the clutch nut was not tightened enough but dont think that is it now as the bottom half of the clutch is solid, but not the top half.
The lower unit is pretty sloppy so the local dealer is going to install new nylon bushings. He said there should not be that much play in it.

Shout Out to KP
I have yet to hear of those tower bushings going bad. I have replaced mine...thinking it was a good thing to do while I had the tower apart. Mic'd the new ones vs the old ones...I think the old ones had more meat on them! The difference between old and new was negligible.
I'm dealing with clutch issues right now, too. Got 30 minutes out of the last two, combined. One aftermarket, one OEM from PD. Works fine for fifteen minutes. Then, stays engaged.

Re: Shout Out to KP
I think its great that he's doing that. He and Peck have both helped me out in the past with other items. BUT.............. when is this market going to wise up and get rid of that lawnmower clutch? These motors are getting bigger, more efficient and more HP, yet the "linkage" between all that time and money spent and your prop is a POS lawnmower clutch. I've been screaming to the rooftops about a small gearbox for years. Its a PITA to change the clutch out on a PD (but I'm working on that) as well as any other MM. If there insistent on using a clutch, use a cone clutch like a Bravo drive. Hell those thing have a hell of a HP rating and is considerably small. I don't care how heavy duty these clutches claim they are, in this type of environment and the conditions we put them through, there not going to last.

Re: Shout Out to KP
I have the extreme clutch, but don't have enough hours on it to really give any input. Another has one and has over 100 hours on one.

Customer Service can make or break a company real quick. Always good to hear when a company takes care of their customers, especially after the sale.
