Post Marsh Mud?
My buddy has a place in Edisto, SC and was asking if I thought a mud motor setup could get through the marsh mud at low tide. He wants to extend his fishing time but the tide takes the water away from his path back to his house. The mud I'm talking about is that black mud you see when the tide goes out and its just fluffy black sea mud. Anybody run through that stuff? What would be the best setup for that or is it just not gonna happen?

only real way to know is try it. if there's no substance to it, the prop might just blow out and not propel the boat forward. it might do great. I've run in something I would describe similarly with no water, but there was substance to it and the prop never lost bite. see if there are any videos on YouTube. Google the location and mud motor, see what comes up.

I tried the video thing but wasn't getting the hits like I hoped. That's a good idea to Google the area too though. Yea I may take my boat down there and try it for him...good thing is that if I get stuck we can just wait for the tide!

yep. bring food, beer, music, and any necessities for however long it might take, and if you have to wait it out, you're set.

I don't know about in SC, but back in the day I ran the tidal flats on the back of Capano Bay around Bayside, Tx(were Aransas River came into bay). Ran a GDLT 16hp on a Lowe 16x44, black gummy mud, it would be hard to get moving but it would do it, replaced the prop every year cause it would wear from 9" t0 7 1/2" in one summer thru duck season!

Are you talking about pluff mud? I haven't had my set up very long but from my little bit of experience the soupier it is the better. If the mud is to thick and packed its hard for the prop to push through it.

I know that if you throw a firecracker in it, it tends to leave a crater rather than fill in really quick. Now down in the "channel" it stays a little soupier so maybe you could work through it. I just need to get down there and try it with him one of these days.
