The Flu!
What the heck was that?!?!
First ever bout with Type A influenza....and had gotten the flu shot as I normally do, every year.
I can only imagine how bad this would have been had I not had the shot! That was some pretty nasty stuff that I don't wish upon anybody!
On the bright side, I did lose 6 lbs, quick!

Re: The Flu!
I never got the Flu shot, never had the flu.. (Knock on wood) My wife got the flu shot for the first time ever, got the flu. The flu shot is only 10% effective anyway, so they say. Vaccines are a bunch of shit, IMO. But, glad you made a recovery!

Re: The Flu!
This year, the flu shot didn't include the strain that wound up going around. The estimated effectiveness of this year's vaccine was much lower than normal, simply because it didn't build the resistance to the flu everyone got.

Re: The Flu!
The drastic rise in autism is due to a drastic rise in the diagnosis of autism. Larger population, but unlikely that the percentage affected by autism is any higher, just gets diagnosed more because we're more aware of it's existence. 100 years ago, the population was much smaller, communication sucked, and they just called them the town idiots, and meant that term differently than they do today. Do I think vaccines cause it? I dunno, but I don't think there's any actual proof either way. I know a child that would be diagnosed with autism right now (or some form of mental issue), but her hippie parents don't trust the government, didn't get her vaccinated at birth (kid was 2 before that happened), do holistic medicine, and all that crap. He lives in a tent by choice. You'll probably never be able to confirm vaccines cause it, but I can't prove they don't either. We all look for a reason something happens or turns out a certain way.

Re: The Flu!
Oddly there is better proof that "bottled water" is causing the rise in autism... Or the plastics the bottles are made of - the same plastic that is used to line the inside of canned foods and make baby bottles... https://www.autismspeaks.org/science/sc ... lasticizer

Re: The Flu!
By no means do I have my hand up screaming vaccines cause autism. But I am screaming that it is very coincidental that Autism rates have sky rocketed, along with the rise in vaccinations. Just from 2008 to 2010 Autism rates climbed 30%. And I promise you the awareness of autism didn't go up that much in 2 years. its also a proven fact that Vaccinated children are unhealthier than unvaccinated children.
Myself, i'm totally against putting any of that crap in my 10 month old son. My wife is the opposite of me and all for the shots. So, its a sore subject in our house.
I'm not trying to convince anyone about anything, I just want people to do some research..

Re: The Flu!
I think the issues we see with kids is less exposure to the outdoors and ALOT less physical activity. That's across the boards with adults too. Regulations and stricter schooling has made US as a society more "soft". I'm a big advocate for education, But we also have to teach and learn by apprenticeship as well. I know I ventured off a bit.....Exposure helps and hurts... we can benefit from hurting too.

Re: The Flu!
The older the parents the higher the chances the child will have Autism, and the fact more is know about certain "ailments" the better the chance of a correct diagnosis. That being said, I read some where once that to take the flu shot more than 5 consecutive years can also be an issue. And the fact they make a "educated" guess on what strain of flu to create the vaccine for, kinda like the lottery some "A" hole got my ticket.
If you really want to get to part of childhood diseases is the fact that Illegal criminal invaders and their children bring diseases into our country and after their arrival, the government moves them around the country instead of immediate deportation.
A few years back, American citizens children were coming down with a chest type infection and most were dying from it. The Obama Admin covered up one important fact, the children infected were in schools that had the illegal invader children placed there by the government.
IMO we can eradicate diseases and viruses, but there will be the exception and diseases and viruses do mutate and society being so mobile things do spread easier and faster!

Re: The Flu!
I had a friend get Guillain-Barré syndrome from a flu shot. Not that I’ve ever had a flu shot but surely will not be partaking in them now. Went from being normal and healthy to paralyzed a couple weeks later. Then he slowly got his movement back, but is still not 100%. I know getting this is the odds of winning the lottery, but it’s a chance I won’t take.

Re: The Flu!
I'll take my chances with the vaccines vs to the cures any day.
If Bayer Pharmaceutical announced tomorrow that they had an FDA approved cancer vaccine, how many of you would be in line for it?
Or, how many of you would prefer to go through several months of chemotherapy and/or radiation?

Re: The Flu!
I feel the vaccine success far outweighs the negative, be to each his own. But when your talking about small pox, polio, and a few others, with children going to school, vaccines should be required.

Re: The Flu!
For vaccines I agree, I'm all for them.
For the flu shot I don't get it.
With 100% certainty if I get the flu shot I get mild flue like effects for 2-3 days. Without the flue shot I get the flu about once every 5 years so about 20%. Call me a gamblin man but I'll just run the gauntlet and cash in when I have to.
