Some of the downsides of the console are you can't feel the ground as well if you're starting to run in shallow, it's not as responsive to turn back and forth if you get stuck, the extra floor space it takes away, and the extra weight of the console setup. If you want new console parts prodrive has them on their website. Give them a call in the morning and they can probably price out a kit for you.

Might also consider a side console, as it helps save some of your floor space.

I do have few of the Prodrive pieces and a steering wheel and cable but it’s from a outboard was going to see if it would work just need all the electrical stuff to go to console and build a console itself got the rest I believe

Outboard steering cables dont hold up to the stress of a surface drive. I would definitely stick to hydraulic steering

My pops has a console on a boat that is identical to mine. Same size, built by same person, out of the same material, with the same motor. I can take his boat through anything mine will go through, and his is much more comfortable to drive.

He does not have hydraulic steering, so it can be a bit of a bitch to turn when you're running slow. Hit a lot more stuff with his boat than with mine when slowly moving through tight stuff. With the tiller, you can just point the boat and goose it. It's harder to do with the console. That's really about the only downside to it, imo. Hydraulic steering would help a ton with that too.

Hydro seems way to go be easier to neatly run the hose in the back too being able to flex them easyier over this dang cable that’s so stiff drove a buddy’s boat that’s got a Mud buddy center console that’s hydro steer it’s was pretty nice on his motor

I have never owned a console surface drive set up, but a guy I know I'm houma has a PD with a center console and he loves it, but he says the same thing y'all are about not being able to dig through the stuff as well and hitting more things. The open floor space with a tiller is a must for me hunting with a dog. Wouldn't mind having a console boat one day though because it seems like it would be much more comfortable for fishing.

Console steer is the way to go! If you order hydro steering head recommend the rear mounted(nothing but shaft and wheel sticks out front) and the higher number the less turns stop to stop with Sea Star.

I run it on my PD with Teleflex steering. Went almost 5 years without needing to change the steering cable. I am just not a fan of the side mounted hydro setup. I don't believe a center mount would work on a PD based on then way the trim is designed. Use the boat for bowfishing and set up a big foot switch as my momentary clutch switch. Trim the motor up where half prop is in water then just bump the clutch and steer to move around while we fish.

Was really looking at the Teleflex over the hydro mainly price wise hydros 1000 more wondered how the Teleflex held up I’d like it cheap as I can but not have to fix it all the time

Think I’m gonna go with the Teleflex cable for now being it will be a lot cheaper to swap over

Get the hydraulic and don’t look back.

I will put my console up against any of you tiller guys to go anywhere you think I can’t go because I have a console.

Suicide knob is the key to having a steering wheel and needing to root around.
