Good morning guys. I wanted to find out how many hours you guys have on your mud motors. Can I realistically expect to get 1000+ hours on these motors without significant repair cost involved? :?:

If you know how to use a search engine, perhaps google, type or copy and paste “mudmotortalk hours” into the search bar. You will see extensive threads and posts on this topic, you’ll be reading for hours.

Sorry to stir the pot guys! Definitely wasn't my intention. It's good to see that some of these motors can last thousands of hours. I am seriously looking at a GT40XD. Looks like a great motor and maintenance seems to be pretty straight forward.

Please don't clutter the forum with such things.

We need to leave room to discuss things like bow rope storage, LED light color, and what drain plug to use...…

Seriously, if treated right can run for many years. Remember there are two pieces to the puzzle. The engine/motor, and the frame (manuf). You can have a great frame in perfect condition and the motor blows, and you just need to repower the unit. That is the most common assuming you maintained the frame part of the puzzle.

Most stock motors that are maintained well and not abused will run for a very long time... 1000 hours should not be problem. Modded motors (if done right and reasonable) can last a very long time as well. "Fixing" a powerhead issue is that not big a deal if you are mechanical inclined. If you are not mechanical inclined, you might have to spend some money to repair and maintain.

Biggest issue is the Briggs motors tend to be a crap shoot on quality for this application.

If this is your first mudmotor, as stated you need to start researching A LOT. And by research, I don't mean just ask questions, I mean take the time to search and read. There are thousands of threads on here discussing virtually everything possible including bow rope storage, led color, and drain plugs.

Lot to learn-lot different than and outboard-in many ways. IMO, they do require a little more mechanical ability and maintenance than a typical outboard. You will need to learn to do things yourself or BOAT.... Break Out Another Thousand.

This is not a cheap hobby.

Good luck.

I bought a 23 go devil LT used with 900 hours on it and currently have around 1200. Never had any issues besides changing the head gaskets. I also have a 40 GTR with 20 hours on it. It depends on how you take care of them, how much you run them, and like any machine, some people have great experiences with them and others do not

Airboat, sportfishing boats, airplanes, and race cars are in that very large bucket of expensive hobbies.
