Post Riv Nuts in Go Devil Gunnel
I am mounting 4 100w LEDs on my 1838 to shoot fish. The back pair need to go between the front deck and middle bench to get the best coverage. Is the extruded material Go Devil uses to make their gunnel thick/strong enough for me to mount these lights with riv nuts?

I think you are going to want to figure out another way. That is a lot of stress from the weight of lights bouncing on the hwy or slapping chop while motoring. Id suggest fabricating a drop-in style deck and hung a light rail pin to it and pin to the spud pole mount in the front. I can send you pics of mine if needed.

We put rivnuts in boats all the time, just get good riv nuts, don't use the cheap that comes in that harbor freight crap. Amazon has good ones that seat, and are up to grade 8, if im not mistaken.

I agree with dmax, just use quality ones and you should be fine. The amazon ones are good, we have also used them before in the past with success

Make sure you get a quality riv-nut setter.

I use these things in aviation all the time, the type of setter makes a difference between installed and a quality installation.

I used the ones that were countersunk versus the ones that had flat heads, allowed me to have a flush install.

Go get a small can of zinc chromate primer and coat the holes and riv-nuts so they don't oxidize internally, once installed and set, you can wipe the excess primer from the surface.

Riv nuts are awesome, I bolted down a bedslide in the back of my truck with some and they're solid as a rock.

I have no doubt a riv nut will hold. I was worried about the extruded gunnel that go devil welds on top of the sides. I doubt it is very thick but I've never drilled/cut into it.

Most gunnels are atleast 1/8 which is able to take and hold a rivnut. Allot of guys riv nut there lights, blinds, etc. Just take the advice given and the rivnut will hold
