Post subject:  Gutted stock muffler & mikuni carb question

I have a 36hp PD with a mikuni 42hsr carb and BPS Q muffler. Both carb and muffler are shot so i bought a new carb and a $40 stock muffler from prodigy. I want to gut the muffler since it seems like that is the way to get best performance on a stock motor with mikuni carb. Can anybody tell me what size jets i will need for the carb? It came with a 97 main jet. My old one had a 97 too but it seemed to run rich, but it was also pretty fucked up so.... Any input is appreciated. Thanks fellas

97? Main jet? Not sure what you have, should be 160's...

You bought a new mikuni? What was wrong with the old one that warranted you spending another $250+?

And yeah, main jet should be somewhere around the 155-162.5 range for it.

It's probably the jet sizes converted to some cross reference thing using common core math. 2+3=lawnmower

I took it to delta for them to tune it up back when i live in morgan city because i kept having to fuck with it (i’m still learning about this stuff and was over it) well they took it apart and said they couldnt even do anything with it i cant remember exactly what they said was wrong but i know it was missin some stuff and apparently somethin was so bad they said i need a new one even after i told them i was absolutely not gonna buy one from them for $500 when i could get it on amazon for 250 (there is a whole kit on there right now for 150) so i went ahead and bought a new one but im not going back to delta

maybe you could also just find a stock carb and put on a stock muffler and have a motor you won't have to wrench on. might be an option, might not. i have found stock carbs from guys who bought other carbs for dirt cheap.

good luck!!

I have a stock carb I would sell. Only has about 2 hours on it.
