Post Safety chain/cable on SD
Just got my first SD on my new boat and I’ve had a few people warn me about a surface drive jumping into the boat after hitting something really hard . Does his really happen? Is there a need for a short chain or cable connecting the motors to the transom in the event the mounts fail?
I was kind skeptical cause I really don’t see that happening with it bolted to the transom along with the clamps .

My gatortail is bolted. Never been at issue. Maybe some of the other brands that are just tightened to the transom?

I watched a guy have a Gatortail come almost in the boat with him a couple of weeks ago after hitting a stump dead center. I think he said he caught it with his shoulder and shoved it back. He mentioned something about needed to put his safety strap back on...

I planned on bolting it with some 1/2” grade 8 bolts along with the clamps it has. Can’t see that coming off

I can’t imagine one being knocked into the boat if it is secured to the boat properly, but stranger things have happened. SEVERAL years back a guy hit a pipeline here in SETX and it knocked the pro drive off of the boat, it landed in the mud flat. There’s pics floating around of that incident
