Post Prodrive ratchet vs hydraulic reverse
So I am looking at upgrading to a (used) Prodrive and am trying to talk myself out of going hydraulic for some reason. As much as I would love the ease of it, I feel like with hydraulic there is more to go wrong with it, as well as the price of a unit with hydraulic is more. Does any one have any input or pros/cons on the two? I should note that the only time I would use the reverse is at the boat launch and when stuck, I do not fish or anything else out of the boat. Thanks.

You’ll fly through the air like super man if the reverse pin breaks and you’re at WOT with the manual reverse. Ask me how I know. For that reason alone I would get hydraulic or another brand.

Ha that sounds like a fun story to hear. I currently have a GTR but am sold on PD for the reverse. What other brand would you get and why?

I have ratchet on my work rig and hydraulic on my personal. Probably chalk it up to me being lazy but at the boat ramp its quicker to pick up the push pole and give a shove backwards than fool with the ratchet. Invaluable when you're stuck though. I'd still take hydro personally. Shit breaking is the price paid to play the game for me.

I don't think they offer manual reverse anymore, just hyd. I've been running ratchet reverse on mine since way before they sold it and never wanted hyd reverse, or hyd trim either. but that's me. less stuff to break.
supposedly they will have their instant reverse out sometime soon. of course I been hearing that for a couple years now. lol

That was my thought, less to break. But from the motors I am finding, the hydros are about the same price as the manual. Why not go hydro at that point. Now what the hell is the difference between Vanguard and Vanguard Marine edition and how do you tell the difference?

The manual reverse has been known to cause suicide slides. Unless you want to be Hillary Clintoned, I suggest hydraulic.
