So y'all went with young Isky, eh?

It's gotta be tough trying to grow up the son of basically the founding father of performance cam design, and you end up having to tell him one day that you want to work on small engines. He probably got the same look from Ed Iskanderian as he would have if he told him he liked getting pounded by dudes.

 just something I wondered when I found out about Isky small engine. Y'all run the motor that's together yet? Or it was just an engine stand hit?

Ok guys here's my take on Kawi heads. Porting/polishing is 99% done, there's a little burr bit chatter in exh port I wanna smooth and polish the chamber some more where that orange peel is but its almost there. Figured I'd share before I started decking. Lemme know whatcha think... Intake pics then exhaust then chamber.

Looks like it would be worth trying to index your plugs on those heads.

I'm ignorant to things like this but would it be better to polish the exhaust ports and combustion chambers to a mirror finish?

Looks good ole boy. Now let just hope we see some good numbers. And Yes it would help with carbon build and such but I know I had about 8-10 hours in mine. I polished my exhaust ports but not to a mirror finish. Did the combustion chamber though.

What you need to try to accomplish is start right on top the seat and slope it into the chamber. Just be carefully when doing this with a die grinder and take your time

Thx, hell that's all right coming from a sho' nuff professional! :D Only other thing I've been contemplating here is that we're really limited on decking tolerances and I've been a little leary of takin' any meat outta the chamber with the compression #s I got. I know they're low due to several factors (cold motor, new valves/seats, etc on that set of heads) but I think with my "seasoned" heads and known good seats we should be fine even with the greater valve overlap that our "new" cams will have.

If you can keep it at 175 to 180 you will have good performance. I would be more worried about the hot spot that the lip will create when everything in the chamber is polished

Nice work bug! One question though, I see you whacked all the guides down and they looked like they were penetrating down into the port a pretty good bit...think you have enough guide length left over with what is in the casting of the head and the little bit that extends above the casting under the valve spring? Just curious if they had trouble breaking valves and run those long guides for a reason or not.

Cupped, there's been tremendous speculation as to the purpose of the guides sticking so deep in the ports and I've taken a chance here, but I actually cut em off at a "step". The part you could see had an oversized hole... I actually haven't heard and don't know why they're that way.

I was hopin' somebody had a good explanation 'cause the fuggers at Kawi are TIGHT LIPPED! All I can figure is maybe they're trying to keep some heat off the stem seals but that'd be a odd way to accomplish that... Anybody got any idea I'd like to hear it.

I know that they were very loose around the valves. They really didn't " guide" shit. But with them sticking up so high, must be there for somtething.

Make sure the valve train geometry is correct and try and keep the side load off the valves

Chamber relief before and after. Done porting, polished and decked .025 so they're goin' back together and on the motor in AM then we'll see if it'll run.
