I am a mechanic in a Power Plant.... nuff said there second I DID NOT READ ALL 5 PAGES

Now Belts are better in one way cause they can take fatigue, and misalinment issues that gears cannot.... Gears have a better sevice life, and are stronger when they are matting properly.

2,000HP electic motors have gears but the gear boxes need to be within a thousands of an inch or the F-up... belts on an 20 hp motor can be an 1/4" out and never have issues.. when they both run WOF for 18 months.

I pretty much posted the same, in general that a gear is more durable but i dont think a 35briggs will ever stress a belt to failure..

Got ganged raped for it...

Ask me about gears. I have set up a few rear axles, and belive me if your contact patch is NOT Optimal you will have wear that is unwanted and reduce service life.
