Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Put it all back together today fabbed up an exhaust outta 'ol Nasty and slapped a 170 main in the Miky. Damn thing pulls like a freight train and ran out well also. Shot over to a close mud hole and only got to make a few passes, runnin' steady mid 28s at around 4100 rpm. Didn't let it wrap past there. There's more in it with some tuning so at least it seems to be on the right track.

hmmmm, may just keep going with the stock cam and a tad more decking... more results to come but looking extremely well at the moment.

Man my Cub Cadet has a Kawai 23 hp on it and it has been flawless. Used and abused mowing over an acre that is my yard. I pretty much run it WFO the entire time too. Glad to see some are applying them to MM......I think they will be fantastic.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Ok, where do I start. Took the rig out for its maiden voyage. Now bare in mind, I took the mikuni out the box, put a 167.5 main (that what my briggs had, figured it be close), kept the 4.2 needle seat and whatever size pilot it had (don't know). The reason for the 4.2 needle seat is that the Kawasaki has a different fuel pump than the briggs. Its a pulsation pump. At no time did fuel overflow out of my tube so the 4.2 may work with this type of fuel pump. So, put it in the water, cruised around a little and said fuck it, hammered it. This sucker flat rolled out. Now, it was just me, very little fuel and a push pole. Decided to make a few WFO runs. Pulled out the GPS, set the idle at bout 1100, mashed the gas, there was a slight bog initially when I mashed the gas, but then it caught. I bout threw me off my seat. Decided to do it again, and again, it bogged then slid my ass back. So now I know that the carb although pretty close, needs some adjusting to get it right with the Kawi. But when it did catch, it got on plane quick, very quick. If it wasn't for the bog, I could probably get on plane in less than 20'. The low end grunt on this thing is stupid. After I was on plane, mashed the throttle and it took off. First run was 29 and 4150 with hardly any trim. Very little roost. Played around with the trim and second run ran 30 at 4250 and held 30 for as long as I wanted to. But I still could not trim up like I wanted. because I had very little fuel up front, it wanted to porpoise a little. I could tell that there was more to give, but the bouncing kept me from even trying. Was gonna play with the trim tab a little, but damn near ran out of fuel so I headed back. There was a few times when I killed it to check stuff, I could smell fuel coming from the exhaust. So the main could be real fat also. So with a little carb tuning, this sucker is gonna roll out.
BRIGGS ENGINE: Now to compare to my briggs. I did my briggs is stages. All speeds were in very deep water. Bone stock 07’ that ran ok on a 1950. 25 mph SETX heads and exhaust. 28 mph SETX heads, SETX cam, exhaust. 30 mph At this time, I built my new hull, the 1748. SETX heads, SETX cam and exhaust . 30 SETX heads, SETX cam, exhaust and modded stock carb from Preston (also intake was port matched and cleaned up. 32.2 SETX heads, SETX cam, exhaust and mikuni HSR42. 34.2
The final speed test was performed in a very windy day. No speed change from running with or against the wind. My boat began to porpoise when I tried to trim up. I had very little fuel in my front tank which helps this and I may still need to shift my battery up front. But at 34.2 MPH, my stock prop is completely buried, no roost at all. And I mean at all, no spray. If I tried to trim up, it would start to bounce. I plan on doing some more runs this week moving weight around to trim up and let it eat
In comparison, with heads, exhaust and carb on the kawi, it ran very close if not the same as my briggs with heads, cam and exhaust. If I get the crab tuned correctly, I would say that the Kawi is a little stronger with the similar mods out the box. The cam coming from Isky racing in California should be here very soon. That’s gonna give me even more grunt. When I started this project, I was just hoping to get it to run close to my stage 2 briggs. Well it appears to be right on course to do that. I really not concerned with top end speed but rather load carrying. The top end speed of my briggs was just the byproduct of the power it made. If I can load this bitch up with a big ass hunting load, 3-4 guys, deks and all our shit and run 29-30. I’ll be tickled to death. So there is still work to be done on it, but from what I experienced on the first run, I got f’n pumped knowing it ran like that with an un-tuned carb and cam.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Were gonna try a different grind and see how it does. We may have overshot it on this one. Still pulls hard but flattens out on top. Still ran 33 at 4760 but trying to get more out of it. You can definately tell it wants more, it's just finding that right grind. Lee has talked to isky and now he understands what our intent is, I think the next one will be better than the first. May be able to do a little more decking also. Low end grunt is stupid though. If I had a choice, I would rather a Bull running 28-30 than a cheetah than takes forever to get up on plane with a load. But well see what the next cam shows. Best of all, I don't even have to drain the oil to change the cam. Pop the top, install the new one, roll out.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
One other thing, the briggs was already tried and tested. You could go to PVT, Dyno cam, or any other performance shop and buy off the shelf shit and put in on. With the Kawi's, you better have some know how, because no one make parts for them. Everything so far is custom, so it's somewhat trail and error as we go.

Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Once we find the sweet spot for everyday hunting loads and such, a new thread will be posted with all the ins and outs with the correct engine model number so it will be a simple bolt on replacement to the Briggs. And there will be a cam grind number for the guys interested in upgrading that you can order yourself. About the only catch after that will be an exhaust, no one makes one for it other than factory restricted exhausts that are not good this application. Maybe someone will pick up the ball if enough get interested but it'll be all on you in the beginning.

Should start working on new grind this morning. Hopefully it will be finished by the end of the week and see if it can make ole Lee's barge get airborne. Also picked up a few more "closet" kawi members. The Revolution has begun !!!
