In my experience a stock carb and intake with tweaking was all that was needed to run heads decked .050 with a cam and exhaust.

If u read good it I said it depends what ur trying to achieve I have decided to build a little wilder motor so the carb would be best for me to do first when I do cam I will change rods also and I will also change heads cause there shaved to much to use with after market rods but what I was originally intending to do cam would have been a good choice I was just stating that there are steps to building an engine and it all depends what ur trying to accomplish and sext has pretty good insight on how to get u there if I were sticking to my original plan to get my boat to run 30 with a load almost any cam from who ever sells them would have been a good choice

And if u have access to a machine shop and are capable of building a few brackets and intake carbs are really not that expensive but if u have to order the kit it is steep I agree carb can be bought new on eBay for 280

jesse and hunter both have heads decked over 55 thousanths with cams with stock carbs

So it looks like the ones with Cams are happy, and for the most part the carb is ~ok,,,,,

Each compared the cam wins out in power and cost if that all you plan on doing, but if doing more internal mods, it may not win out?

But here is the big question,,,does the cam profile/design change due to the carb?

That may be enough reason to go carb first, if the cam and carb was plan from the get go???

Wild and crazy cams can allow more air in and out of the motor. Well You will need a different carb after a certain amount.

T I feel like this with my mods I think the carb is to much. When digging with motor trimmed down it seems like it gets to much fuel with the pump. I find that bottom end on these motors are key. If you got z motor digging znd it's bogging out you aim doing shit. I find with a stock carb digging my old motor never got loaded up. Sure the bigger motors won't bog down but the stage one will craig's motor doesn't bog in anything. But mine will

I just feel with my experience not that I'm a mechanic or something but I do put slot of hours on the tiller with these things. that's carbs aren't the answer to making these things run. Big motors yes.
