 Re: STILL dies under load...
Main reason I went in the carb was just hoping to find something with some trash in it. I agree, it's been running fine as it, why even back with the carb float? It's worked fine for literally years where it's at.
What crack are you talking about??? I haven't replaced the fuel cap no. I did run it with the line directly submerged in the gas in the tank though. That would rule out a bad cap, vent, tank fitting etc...

Let me know when u remove the bulb. If that's not it, check the intake gasket. Does it or has it backfired?

 Re: STILL dies under load...
Only time it will backfire thru the carb is if it's stone cold and you pin the throttle off idle... I've always had to let this thing warm up for a couple minutes before just taking off.
I've checked the intake and carb gaskets by spraying carb cleaner around them with it running. If they were leaking it would have shown up then I'd think. We're supposed to be getting some real screwed up weather the next few days and who knows what my work schedule will look like. Hopefully I'll have time to throw a piece of hose straight from the pump to the tank and eliminate the bulb and filter connections some time in the next couple days.
Not super motivated to get out in the shit weather and fix this thing to try to salvage an already less than stellar season... It will get fixed though.

 Re: STILL dies under load...
I was stuck in fuel tank mode, sorry.
I replaced that thing and chunked the old one. Fixed that leak and now thats good to go. Didn't fix my fuel problem like I had hoped but it wasn't helping either...

 Re: STILL dies under load...
I had a similar problem- I had to replace my fuel bulb 4 times - they all had minor issues with them.
Finally got a working one and it ran like a top.
Every thing you said above screams fuel system. Not carb, not spark, not timing..... fuel.

 Re: STILL dies under load...
reviving this thread.... shits still broke.
I've adjusted the float and it seemed to have helped but if I go any more it pukes fuel out of the carb vent. I have also taken the fuel primer bulb and fuel filter out of the equation completely.
That being said, those who do run electric fuel pumps, what do you run? If I do this, I'll go ahead and move the tank to the front to justify it I guess.

Any input on a pump and maybe where to get one?
Trying to get one on it by the weekend

 Re: STILL dies under load...
Adjusted oil level per the BoatDR's recommendation. it was previously right at the full mark, I lowerd it to right above 'add'. Went and ran it and did not fix the issue but I'm sure it didnt hurt. He suggested the oil could be slinging into the fuel pump pulsation line at higher RPM's causing a restriction in Vacuum supply and ultimately, fuel starvation at higher RPM. I did manage to get a video of it acting up, Its on my phone. Not sure how to transfer it so it can be viewed here though. If anyone smarter than me wants to see it I'll gladly send it to you any more guesses? I'm running out of ideas and time to get it fixed.

Is the pulse pump mounted to the crankcase?

 Re: STILL dies under load...
So if you take a new bare fuel line with nothing on it and run it from you fuel pump into a gas can and the line coming out of the pump to the carb will it run like normal?

 Re: STILL dies under load...
I have NOT taken a solid one piece of hose from the pump to the tank. I have removed the filter and bulb and slid in some solid pieces of stainless tubing that were snug in the line and then put clamps on that. It'll hold compressed air, I don't see how that could be leaking.
The pump is not mounted on the crank case. It's mounted on a bracket behind the cowling. There's a small pulsation/vacuum hose coming from the engine to the pump then the inlet and outlet of the pump itself. All of which have been changed.

 Re: STILL dies under load...
Added a pump, ran like an animal all day... Put about 6hard hrs on it and never an issue with it running... I'd say that fixed it!!!

 Re: STILL dies under load...
Yep, tried lowering the oil level to just above 'add' and it made no difference. Sprayed the pulse line clean with carb cleaner to make sure nothing residual was left behind. Still didn't work.
I don't know if it's coincidental or not but 3 of us at the mud run yesterday had experienced this identical issue after putting sea foam in the fuel. I don't know if there's anything to that but it was kinda odd.
My pump is Afro-rigged in the boat but it worked like a champ yesterday, all day. I'll do a more permanent install and wire it in now that I know that's the fix.

 Re: STILL dies under load...
What pump did you get? I got the facet pump and it was too much pressure. I put an adjustable regulator set to 3 psi after the pump and it works perfectly.

 Re: STILL dies under load...
It's a Mr Gasket pump that I picked up from Advance Auto. It's 2-3.5psi and only draws 2amps. Comes with a pre filter that installs on the pump also. It was about $45. Worked great with no regulator. My 5/16 lines fit perfectly on the fittings that came on the pump.

 Re: STILL dies under load...
Well that's good to know.
I'll pick up a spare and throw in the box so it'll be a 1:1 swap if it ever does take a dump on me. If I have to use the backup, I'll get a facet pump for it. Some of the places I run are waaaay waaaay off in the woods. Getting stranded back there would be no bueno.

 Re: STILL dies under load...
I had a mr. gasket on my last boat and never had any issues with it at all. Have the facet on my boat now, haven't had any real problems with it, but it's noisy as fuck.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000BWE4RCThis is the one... Time will tell how it holds up but it worked perfectly for the 5ish hours of run time it's got on it so far.
