Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
It was a necessity, was quite simple, and is working fine. Thanks again, clay

Since 2008+ its been a weird road from Briggs. Chinese vs. Japanese products.

Was the crankcase cover cracking an issue on the non cdi motors?

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
I have done away with the gasket and have 20 hours and so far so good. Usually by 20 hours I would have the tell tell signs that the oil was working by the gasket.

What about pitting around the oil ports from the old gasket? How is that dealt with?

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
that's old gasket material. I use light emory cloth, and scotch brite pads to clean the areas up.

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
I used a wire brush lightly and then emory cloth, then wiped with acetone. I did see some pits afterwards but I used yamabond with the gasket so I magine that will fill the tiny pits nicely enough!

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
I was changing mine every 20 hours or so. Had the sump side cut and bonded the case together. 50ish hours later and still holding good.

The horizontals suffer a lot from this. Try unbalanced cranks and flywheels; oh an that missing bolt!

Speaking of Kawi charging systems. Can you add additional poles to the Stator to create more amperage?

Yeah, In all honesty With my older pre CDI engine, I haven't had an issue with the 20A stator.

I never even ran a charging system on the briggs so whatever is on the kawi doesn't bother me at all.

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
I got a 27pd. I wanna upgrade to a bigger engine. Is it a pain to swap from a 27hp to a 36hp engine? Does it bolt right up or what?

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
awesome! Do you run the DFI model or the carbed? It says the DFI is rated at 37hp. Im not sure if i would trust the DFI though being kind of new tech on these engines.

The dfi has a 3600 rev limit, so not a good option.

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
Nope. The stock muffler is also super restrictive. You'll be better off making one or having someone make one for you. I think owen said he gained 400 rpms just gutting the stocker.

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
My case leaked at the oil ports in between the 2 halves since about 20 hours....I'm doing a hefty rebuild...no additional HPs...already a 5500 mag.
I'm going to do the new gasket along with sealant...maybe try the tack weld....
Let you know in a few months how it's holding up

Re: Yet another case gasket leak! Any ideas
So did anybody ever end up putting tack welds to hold the case together? If so, how did it work?
