How bout back to talking bout these motors.

comparing the stock cams from a briggs to a kawi. the kawi definitely has more duration than the stock briggs. This would make me think there is more room for gains going with an aftermarket cam on a briggs than going with an aftermarket cam on the kawi. With this said do you still feel there are big improvements to be had by adding the cam in the kawi or is the biggest bang going to be headwork and a touch more can be had with cam work.

kind of the reason I asked as there have been a few experimental cam changes. I cant see the amount of lift comparable to briggs just by picture. Would you say there is more lift and shorter duration in a briggs (small peak power range at lower rpm) than the kawi (shorter? lift but more duration) which helps produce more power at a higher rpm than the briggs but has less on low end

The limiting factor is what the valve train can handle and also having a motor that will still be practical and idle around nice.

I can tell you I only have carb and can idol down lower with kawi than briggs without stalling I let it push against trailer and it will sit there and idol in gear with no prob

You really can't compare the two that critically, it's like comparing a GM 350 to a Ford 351 to a Dodge 360...

As far as idle, the Kawasaki idles awesome and it has more low end grunt than the Briggs stock to stock and the Kawasaki isn't affected as much by additional weight in the boat.

It really is the baddest mudmotor out there!!!!! Hahahahahaha PUCK you AKA! Puddler, the peak torque on the stock cam is at 2600 rpm. That's really just "off idle", the biggest gain is definitely in the heads however the cam will certainly enhance as well as fine tune the power in what rpm range we need. Buddy's 17x54 runnin' 31.5 yesterday wit only mild head work, 42 Miki and open exhaust and it ain't stripped down doin it.

In short, most would be more than happy with the stock cam.

I would think this is why the intake lobes have less lift on them stock...

It will be fun to find what works best.
