Couldn't you shim the valve springs you currently have?

Yes and no. We were looking at possibly doing a shim plate, that would shim both at the same time and somewhat keep it in place. But I have a test spring that should be here Tues or Wed, hopefully. If this spring works, Im ordering a set and see how they do. The stock springs are 16-18 lbs each. This test spring is 26 lbs. I don't think it will take much to get it pass 5k rpms. If it does allow to get pass 5k, then I'll pitch my prop to get rpms back down to a good level.

Well I worked on the limiter Saturday but its not picking up a strong enough signal from the plug wires. Going to try to shorten the signal wires and get the signal pulse right at the coils. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll go with a proximity switch off the flywheel.

Post Re: Kawi FXT00V "Let the good times roll"
Ok guys, here a little update on the springs. Installed them and they work great. I was able to push pass past the 4760 valve float, but not much. The more I trimmed up up, the rpms kept climbing. When I got to about 4900, the prop started to loose bite and lost speed. So now I know that I'm good as far as valve float. Speeds were about the same (consistant 34's, bumped 35 again) at 4830.

But... being I have been somewhat of the test subject for all this, one thing that I have noticed is this motor is a torque monster. The collective group is trying to do everything we can to get the rpms up to get it to run with the briggs. Although its not running the same rpms as the briggs, it is however running faster than my briggs stage 2 did, not by much. After several cam swaps, different springs, I just don't know if the rpms are gonna break the 5000 mark and still pull with power. It may, and maybe we just haven't found the right combo yet. But one thing I do know, this bitch pulls. I have tried a number of times to load this thing till it was about to sink, and it got up and ran 29-30. The pull from 2500-4400 is stupid. Which seems funny being a short stroke engine. I was always told that a short stroke engine still makes power at higher rpms, they spin up faster. Well it does, but kinda flattens out. So I think I'm gonna look at it a different way. Diesel engines make tons of torque by don't really rev that high. If this engine truly has the low end grunt and power to haul elephants, then props will push it over the edge.

I should have caught that earlier when Lee (Bug) took a bone stoke Kawi and spun a 14 pitch on his barge. I bet this stage 2 monster would spin the shit out of that 14. So my next order of business will be to get with a prop guy (Baggy, La Prop, whoever) and see what he can do with it and what do they think. And in the end, if nothing changes, I'll keep my 34-35 mph elephant toting, non-crankcase leaking, mean green diesel pulling machine like it is.

On a side note here is what my Stage 2 mods consist of:
Heads - ported, polished, decked .025" (180 psi), valve guides cut down
Exhaust - open exhaust with 4" can and (2) 1.5" outlets
Mikuni (initial test) - HSR42, 4.2 needle seat, stock Kawi pump, 167.5 main, 20 pilot, short Summit racing carb adapter.
Mikuni (now) - HSR42, 2.3 needle seat, Briggs fuel pump, new billet cab adapter (longer, more mix time), drilled and tapped carb adapter for vacuum fitting for briggs fuel pump, 22.5 pilot, 167.5 main.

Now, Jerimiah just got his heads back and decked them .030". When we did this initially, we decided to go .025" to be on the safe side with clearances. So if his .030" works, then there some additional power to be had. And when I pull these heads after hunting season to check the valves and such, prob get a valve job done (haven't done anything yet, still stock valves) and deck alittle more, depending on his outcome.
