 Fuel filters- 2 vs 1
With all the alcohol being added to gasoline these days and the problems with water build up in fuel even from condensation, I always add fuel/water separators to filter the fuel on all my bigger boats for offshore fishing and am sometimes amazed at what they collect. I use Racor filters with bowls on the bottom to monitor fuel quality on the outboards but added a standard Attwood/mercury spin on separator/filter on my 27kohler longtail on the duck boat as the fuel flow/consuption is pretty low at only a few gallons per hour even at WOT. I took out the standard little white plastic in line filter as I didn't see the need given the other filter and it was just one more connection to go bad- trying to keep the fuel line simple. My buddy argues I should have left it in place. I can't imagine the little paper filter in there catching something the big separator won't and thought 2 filters was just going to limit fuel flow. Any opinions as to the need for 2 filters?

Re: Fuel filters- 2 vs 1
25 gdlt and run 2 filters (water seperator and a small in line filter) without a fuel delivery problem. I just know to change the water seperator when i see rust particulates in the in line filter.

Re: Fuel filters- 2 vs 1
I know too much restriction on a fuel system might cause fuel to boil over and vapor lock. Regardless you shouldn't need more than one filter and do you best to run non ethanol gas in your engine if you can find it.
