Im running Rotella T 15W40 Diesel oil. Yes it is rated for spark ignition aswell. My whole reason of running diesel oil gos back to what 50hptiller refered to about a high zinc oil. High zinc really helps the valve train out in these motors. Oil is a never ending debate. Hell I ran synthetic in my stock powerhead and now run dino diesel oil for my reasons stated... Facts ABout the only thing BETTER a synthetic will do is LAST LONGER in NORMAL use. In EXTREME cold sythetic is better for cold flow properties (ie -20* tems) Extreme heat YES sythetics are better, but an engine will never survive in extreme temps Say 300* oil temps. We can go round and round all day. It is your money so choose the oil you want to spend your money on. For typical use you guys use a dino oil will perform. If you want to learn about oils go to Bobistheoilguy.com and have at it. You will be amazed at how much the Synthetics are just a waste unless you drastically increase your oil change intervals! Carry on. |

I've ran Valvoline VR1 20W/50 for the past 10 years in drag motors with great success. I didn't want to break the tradition so thats what I'm running in the B&S. I know guys who run Rotella T 15W/40 in all out gasoline race engines and swear by it. USA Racing in Houston recommends breaking engines in on Rotella T 15W/40. I agree with MaXXis85, you could debate oil all day long. 50hptiller....Totally agree. I wouldn't run Golden State on my bike chain. ![]() |

Mobil 1 Synthetic & I change it every 15 hours along with my lower unit lube & tranny oil, it take me 15 minutes so why not... |

Post subject: | Re: oil sythetic or conventional |
50HPtiller i see your point, But these motors have an oil pump... Unless it fails you srtill have pressurized oil pumped. I see your point on the splash type oiling systems. Sythetic will have a better film. To each his own. This isnt gonna be a debate, but hey arent we all learning something new? |

Just run what you feel comfortable with. My truck, zero turn mower, and boat all take the same oil (5w30). The only odd ball is my atv, it uses 0w40. I've been buying a couple of cases at a time at O'Reilly's. They've been running some sales on Mobil 1 synthetic, $4.99 qt. |

NO oil will stay together at the temps these engines run. The only REAL solution is to change the oil frequently. VR1 racing oil, amsoil, and rotella 15 w 40 or my picks....with Rotella being at the top. |

I run Mobil 1 10w-40 High Mileage. I think any 30 weight oil is too thin for an air cooled engine. Maybe I'm wrong but I still feel better knowing that a 40 weight will hold up better. |

Go to your nearest oil recylcing facility and scoop some oil out of the bin. This will give you a combo of conventional and synthetic. I found through my experience that I wound up with 7w-34, which seems to increase hp for these motors. J/K Its a lawnmower engine. just change the oil regularly and you will be fine. |
