i bought swampsnypers motor and when i pulled the crankcase cover off i noticed the cam was one tooth over from the dot on the crank. also he said he had the gov arm pulled tight with a spring why do they do that? with stock carb

When you have a cam built for the smaller kart racing motors, a lot of them are adjustable. They really try to tweak those things to get their powerband exactly where they want it. I wouldn't even know where to start with one of these motors and don't really see the need to try. They cams we are buying are pretty well set up to make power in the range that we want them to already.

What cam was in the motor? If it were a cheetah, I could see wanting to move the powerband down in the rpm range.

Probably was installed that way by accident. Cam timing can be adjusted with the grind as well.

If it is a BPS cam the first run of them where improperly marked.

This may be a broad question, but about how many rpm's does the peak tourque change per timing tooth?
