Blown fuse on GT35 tiny tach?
I was idling through a cove today and all of a sudden the clutch disengaged and shortly the engine died. At that point I had no power to the starter or clutch so I found the blown 25 amp fuse on the engine. At that time I didn't have a fuse so I stuck my knife in it to see if it would work. When I did this the tip of my knife started glowing and the wire running from the tiny tach looked like it started smoking right at the ground. I checked the wires and didn't find anything wrong so I unwired the tiny tach and replaced the fuse and everything ran fine. Could a tiny tach do this?

You got a dead short and sounds like you answered your own question. I would not do the knife trick again. Put in a lighter fuse and see if it runs OK. Install a new tiny tach and see if the problem is resolved. The 25 AMP fuse, what else is on that line? Duckdon

Tiny tach shouldn't be hooked up to a 12v circuit should it?

Sounds like your Tiny Tach ground wire has shorted to a hot wire somewhere. cb5331 and dog walker are correct.

I was having the same problem. I brought it to GT twice and they changed out my clutch. I haven't had a problem since.

Re: Blown fuse on GT35 tiny tach?
Finally found the problem last night. There was a small hole worn into the tiny tach wire to the ground jacket. It was laying on to op the bare ignition terminal on the key switch. Thanks for the input guys!
